I’ve had a right old time with the diesel cylinder head. Another story. Another time.
It’s now running but engine warning light is on.
A long time ago I got MES to work but that computer
is dead. I’ve just installed MES on a Windows 11 laptop and it runs fine.
HOWEVER when I try connecting to the car with a USB adapter, MES says “Cannot find COM1”
I don’t want to screw up the laptop so how do I deal with this issue? can’t find anything in the MES forums.

I’ve opened device manager? What do I need to look for?
Adapter is plugged in car ignition is on etc
Yes it's best to

But it depends on the chipset used, the adaptor look identical

There two different common types

One the LED normally only comes one when plugged into the car and laptop

The other will come on with just the laptop

Which type is yours

Thanks. It’s looking like my interface is faulty. I’ll look into sorting why it is not playing nice.
Bugsy Mike came over and we used his professional kit to read codes, read pressures, switch relays, etc. I’ve still got no start. I’ll start a new thread on that.

You shouldn't have to configure all this manually. I've not used it for a while now but I always used to search for the adaptor, then let MES search and find all the modules ? has this changed a lot recently ?

I am using quite an old version of MES

Not all engines are listed inside MES apparently some engine numbers not included but if you select the correct car and engine it will work. My 2019 Panda comes back with this error. I contacted Gendan and they explained that whiel not all specific engine codes are included it will still work. Indeed it does. Being a bit OCD it irritates me but if I relax and go with it all is well. Once MES connects to the right COM port it seems to function OK thereafter. I had the same problem connectingto a DOblo. when a member wanter a small job done. We said go to the MES adjustment when it appeared to accept the car / connection and again it did the job.
