Over the summer the heater fan stopped working suddenly - It was working on my way to my dads, but not on the way home... but as it didnt seem urgent I thought I'd wait for its service which was due in October. Its a 59 reg so out of warranty, therefore it was the cars first service at our local friendly garage rather than the fiat dealership. Anyway... come the service I mentioned it wasn't working, but when I went to collect the car they said it might be the fan resistor?, but they'd like it to go to an electrical specialist to check out as they didn't want to order a part that wasn't necessary - fair enough. So it goes off to be checked out and the entire dashboard ends up being taken out to find the problem, which was a completely melted connection. the photos the garage took are attached. they were amazed that this hadn't blown any fuses, and said that this could have set light to the car! So what I thought would be a simple job ended up costing £425 - mostly labour to get to the wiring, but £130ish for the part. As this was a potentially dangerous fault and the car is just 4 years old should I take this up with Fiat - Surely electrical parts shouldn't be able to get to the point of melting without a fuse blowing? Or is this kind of wiring just standard on Fiats.
