Update on my Cinq Sporting Cam Belt saga and a WARNING to ALL FORUM MEMBERS here.
(Note; This will also be sent to the ALFA FORUM)
His local Fiat Stealler replaced the Cam Belt and said the cause of the 3 previous belts, that started to shread was because the Cam Cover was rubbing against the belt!
Their new belt (inc new top Cam Cover) lasted all of 5 days (<200 miles) before he brokedown. Fiat Dealler said bring it in for us to have another look (Not on yer life FIAT)
So this weekend we stripped if down, and found the Cam Belt had slipped because the new Water Pump (supplied by another Fait Dealler) had a Drive Pulley with DIFFERENT size tooth notches (Thanks alot FIAT)
Moral of this saga;
Do NOT Trust new parts are direct replacements (Fiat parts said this pump was a replacement for his original)
Always check like for like parts before fitting. And if in doubt, do nowt untill you have rechecked elsewhere.
Some New parts have been found with defects that will kill your motor; Cam Pulleys have been reported with with burrs, leading to Cam Belts failure. Or the wrong belt supplied (check teeth profile, and count teeth numbers; Cinq Sporting has 104).
Pictures have been taken before we removed the Cam Belt, and of the 2 Water Pumps with the 5 day old Stealler fitted Cam Belt.
FIAT your name is well and truly muddied over this expensive C*ck-Up
FIAT take note
The only blessing being, the Cinq Sporting has a SAFE Engine, since his engine stopped when the belt slipped, without incurring valve to piston impact
