General mckritch chip issues

Pingu, I suggest you look inside and see what sort of soldering job has been done on the ECU, check that any pins of the replacement chip haven't been jumpered by solder and that there isn't any tracks or lands (the bits of tracks that go around where the pins come through) aren't missing from where the original chip was desoldered. Also check that the person who did the job used sufficient electrostatic protection.

just got a couple of pics. not very good. the last one isent that bad its the gluey stuff. not been took of.it looks ok to me.

like i sed not very good pics. i rushed and it with my phone.

Very hard to tell with those pics mate, try using macro mode on your camera and holding everything very still.

im using the red key and the car is geting petrol

Sounds like the immobiliser's disallowing the start. Id hazard a guess that its because youre using the red key - It'll be entering programming mode. Use the right (blue) key and you might get somewhere

The flux thats been left on after the soldering may be doing no good. It should be cleaned off regardless, as it will cause problems over time.

Acetone, Isopropynol, flux cleaner etc will all do the job. Maplins whould be open today as well ;)

Once you cleaned it off, I'd give the board a wash under the tap, but make sure its TOTALLY dry before you link it back up.

Some better pics would be nice, as suggested.

I doub't its the relay though. The fact its turning on and off signifies the ecu is switching it. If its a wiring fault, or relay fault, i doubt it would keep switching.

just cleaned the ecu and retryed it. but this time i took the airfilter of. it the same but i noticed that when the ignition is on the fuel relay still cliks and every time it cliks it sprayes alot of fuel. also isnt the fuel pump supose to prime up then switch of. it caries on untill its swiched of. so i think it is just fludind it before it can fire. but not sure.:bang:

Back to basics

Q.1 Did it work before the mapped chip was fitted to the ECU?

Q.2 Have you changed anything else on the car at the same time?

If the answer to Q1 is 'yes' and Q2 is 'no' then it is clear that your ECU is now duff, whether the chip has been badly soldered in or the ECU has been damaged in some other way we cannot tell with the information you have provided. The EPROM fitted may not have been programmed properly.

The fuel relay is a red herring, it is being switched by the ECU but probably incorrectly.

Good questions Vic20 :)

I presume he sent the orig ecu off, and had the new ecu soldered in? At least thats what i thought.

I'm not sure who did the job though, but sounds like its a bad one!

Not entirely the same, but one i plugged my MS ECU in the wrong way round! After i put it back right all was well....lets hope this is the case.

Desoldering a 40 pin? DIP is a pita though. locks of wick, pump, and prefereably a hot air blower.
