I am wanting to put alloy wheels on my mark 2 punto and have one question. What's the maximum wheel size I can fit without any modifications or affecting the turning circle too much or clipping the wheel arch? I was initially thinking of 15".

Thanks for any help you can give me...

Depends, but I think as a rul of thumb 17 with the right tyres. Expect the driving to be trickier though, the car slower and the speedo quite a bit off. I've heard rumours of even 19s fitted but this is still, I think, without picture proof so. 15s are a conservative but probably sensile. choice. IMO the Mk2 Sporting 15s look great on the car.

Spirito di Punto | M-reg 55SX, black, 5dr. Clear repeaters. Remote locking fitted, no light confirmation yet though - need relay fitted

ive seen 205/40/17,s on a mk2 punto. my own is running 195/45/16 and this is the maximum the dealer recomended, really 195/40/16 is the best bet as mine only just fit, and i mean only just. for fifteens you need 195/45/15 or lower, 185/50/15 scrub on full lock

HY
MY MKII have 9 x 16 225/40 16
10 x 16 255/35 16 [8D]

17 b ok cz compared to 16 they almost take up same ammount of space its just that you have more wheel than tyre.iv gt a mk1 n its fine only needed bit of minor trimming but i think the mk2 has more space so sould b ok

Ive got a mk2 running 17" rims with 205/40 R17 tyres. On flat surface the front wheels dont rub wen full locked but do wen the sus is compressed. Only rubbed once on the back- with 4 ppl in the car.

I used to have 15" tsw razors- not bad but compared to the 17" wolfrace mantis they look dump.

GO FOR 17s U KNO U WANT TO

Just remember that adding to the overall size of the wheels (which adding 16/17's means it happens) will cause the following:

Speedo out, especially noticable at high speeds
Damage your gearbox/differential/engine in the long run
Remove some of your acceleration
Possibly highten your top speed

If you want reasons for any of the above, I will quite happily write them out for you upon request.

Oh and you should be very careful about buying a car with 17" wheels on. You don't know how hard that car has been pushed with those wheels on. If the car is pushed harshly with 17's on to try and get the acceleration you get with the standard wheels, this will really put extra loud on the gearbox/engine.

Regards
Paul

My first signiture (a lot of thought put into it): If you can't find the switch to switch your fogs off I am sure I can help you! Damn fogs.

wouldnt a larger radius of tyre give you greater accelertion and lower top speed as it takes less revolutions to achieve the same distance???
I am thinking this because on my kart we run larger gear sprockets to achieve faster acceleration but lowers top end as pulls revs faster due to more teeth, just thought it migt have same effect with wheels

Despite what the name says I now drive a punto!

Nope. pghstochaj is correct on all counts.

And to be honest, I would never buy a second hand car that wasn't bog standard - I just see them and get a bad feeling about the car being filled with driver and 4 mates (all wearing baseball hats backwards) and then thrashed mercilessly against some other ship of fools in a Peugeot 306 1.4 (with an induction kits - whoopy do!)

Sorry - don't mean to offend anyone... maybe I'm just getting too old...

If your vaguely bothered about the sellability of the car in a year or so's time and are going to put alloys on, get some genuine Fiat ones and no bigger than 1" over standard.

It's also fun to look in Autotrader occasionly:

Citroen Saxo VTS lookalike (1.1 engine)
Beast Body Kit, Nitrous, 19" Wheels, 10MW Amp, Blue Head Light Bulbs. One careful owner. £25,000 of parts fitted.
£1795 ono

Here come da judge...

i have 195/50/15 on my mk2 punto and they are just right appart from the fact that i had to get some 10mm spacers (and a task getting longer bolts) for each but i now have a nice ride and a nice look also!! just need to get it lowered!!

mk2 punto in white, blue interior and more neons joining the car every day!! looking for ideas!!

the speedo isnt affected with 17" wheels. iv followed another car at exactly 30mph past a speed camera- we were both doin the same speed.

The performance of the car is affected by the bigger size, but not too much and anyway for the looks you get with 17" who cares???

EVERYONE- SPRAY YOUR PUNTOS BLACK

17's will go on fine, with the correct tyre, there is a guy in ireland who as 18 kahn's on his punto with no problem!

19's someone has done this with proof and there is another without proof!
but go for 17" u will not regret it they look the nuts!

hi : )
my boyfriend's kindly giving me some 15" alloys for my mk2 punto, says I need 205/55/15 tyres. will these be OK?
any advice would be greatly appreciated : )

But being as its here -
They will be too big and affect the gearing ratios. 205-55 is quite a bit taller than 185-55. Also risk the body or suspension rubbing somewhere.
