General Max speed 60mph !!

Hi Guys

From the symptoms and route so far i would suspect either fuel pressure or fuel quantity being below what is demanded,

does your mechanic have a way of checking the fuel pressure or flow rate ie litres per minute etc.

similar symptoms to a 1973 850 spyder i have, the fuel pump pin wore down and was only pumping about 40% of what was needed at full running.

i hope this helps

Tim

Is there any way of checking inside the last piece of fuel line as ive had the inside of rubber hoses breaking down and reduce the flow even though the fuel pressure was ok

sounds interesting, he has checked fuel pressure and that seemed fine, I now have the car back at home, and while she runs pretty well 80% of the time, it still needs sorting, as does electrical gremlins for dash gauges, thanks for your input ;)

Hi Guys

Ive also had the front brake hose disintegrate on the inside, it allowed the fluid to go down under high pressure but would not let it flow back after braking, ive know of other things blocking the fuel lines internally causing similar problems.

have a good break

Sorry Tim, No is the short answer :), not yet anyway, she is getting regular run outs to keep her ticking over, thought i'd just give things a break over Xmas period, didn't have much time off anyway, my plan of action is to get in touch with Brian Stigant soon and let him give her the once over, and go from there, thx ;)

Managed to get someone to do a proper diagnostic read on Nella, thx Sam at Jeffs Autos, Bolton, unfortunately no faults or codes to read :( , the misfire at 3800 - 4000 was showing up, and he suggested I get a compression test, so back to Radcliffe Tyres and MOT station, compression check all good, also tested water pressure, another thumbs up, he put me in touch with a place in Bolton who specialise in timing issues and clutches, and apparently have all the gear to do this correctly, during all this running around we have identified that the water pump is ready for changing ( noisy, probably bearings knackered ), also radiator has a small leak, so may aswell change when timing is done, booked in for tuesday , will update as soon as I get any news ;)

Andrew Lewis ( Roo ) Lewis Automotive, had noticed that the engine seems to rev freely all the way up the range when cold, so replaced temp sensors ( single pin and double pin ones ) no change :( , crank sensor ordered for tomorrow, then if that doesn't change anything, rocker cover is coming off to check valve clearances etc, it will be worth it in the end :)

Roo replaced crankshaft sensor today, he monitored the car yesterday and found that it was loosing 1 or 2 volts when under load ( will get more info when I pick her up on Wednesday ), he is confident that this has fixed the issue, after taking her for a spin and monitoring/testing for over 20 mins, this is absolutely fantastic news :) , it is the way it goes sometimes I think, another car on another day, somebody may have gone straight to that or something else as a first point to look at, ah well, water pump and new radiator to fit, and collect midweek

Issue Fixed - loss in acceleration at higher speeds, this is due to a fault crankshaft sensor. What happens is that the engine control unit does not receive correct information due to the faulty sensor which causes a problem while synchronizing the engine pistons together. Moreover, incorrect spark timing and fuel injection adjustment also causes poor acceleration. Hallelujah :)
