Mark 1 or 2

I bought my 1998 on a R reg. Marea 20V on ebay some 3 weeks ago(4561140951), for £450 and I thought it was a bargain, but now I'm not sure. As there was no service history and hearing of Fiat cam belts letting go before their time, I had my locaL garage change it, this one had 76k 0n it. The garage phoned on Tuesday to say that the belt that they had in for the car was the wrong one. Then he explained, he said that the engine was a replacement engine and and he says its a mark 2 engine, 2002 year. The top of the engine where plugs are is plastic!!!!!. He changed the tensioner as well, I have the belt that came out of the engine and it looks new to me, no scuffs or breaks and very plyable. I had the MOT done at the same time as it was due 10 September, so now have 13
months Test. Total cost including the Test was £360.
I suppose now I will have inform my insurance company of the change of engine

Does the engine number on the V5C match the number on the engine in the car? (no idea where the number is on a 20v lump)
