General marea weekend cooling fan

Hello ff , is it just mine but my fan only seems to cut in when the temp gauge gets almost all the way to the top of the dial , also can anyone pls tell me where the thermostat is located so i can have it out and check it , many thanks to all replies.

Not sure on the 20v but you may have a 2 speed fan and the low speed is via a resistor which has corroded and fallen off. Have a look at the loom at the fan and see if there is a wire without a home. Another possible is the relay/fuse box in front of the battery. The fan realays are usually there and its well known for corroded sockets in there.
The thermostat will be somewhere in the plumbing around the passenger end of the engine (RH drive car). The fans are controlled form the ECU which looks at a thermistor in the thermostat housing. (above per 1.8 but I think the 20v is same)
