Just wondering if anyones made any to take 5" speakers? I haven't had a proper measure up so dont know if its actually possible but it would be interesting to see.

The 4" ones are a bit flimsy and seem to audiably vibrate at moderate volumes.

I'm thinking securely fitted mdf pods painted black with black cloth over the front and speaker mounted on the inside of the hole for a stealth look

Been thinking about it more, could maybe be possible to use 5x7 speakers or even some components with the tweeter mounted next to the mid bass

Nobody tried fitting larger speakers?

Im just thinking about it at the moment, i know its easier to stick with 4" but the current pods are cheap and flimsy and not sealed in any way (Big gaps in the bottom corners).

Just had to buy some new larger spade terminals from maplin (For new speaker cable) so i ordered a 1.5m x 0.5m piece of thick speaker fabric too (£2). Thats an incentive to make something up, will need to work out how to make speaker boxes first! I dont have a router which could make it interesting, might be able to use a circular saw though

I fitted 4 110w speakers (£19.99/pair) from motormart - the 10cm ones. Loadsa volume!
They come complete with cables. 13cm speakers just don't fit speaker pods or cut sensibly into the rear side panels.
I also put 6x9s into the door pockets but it doesn't work well.......:(

They might fit wider, custom made pods though. It would be very tight but i think it could be possible.

Its not all about volume, quality is more important IMO :)

Right, i made a paper template with a 120mm cut out....thats about the maximum 130mm speakers need.

Looks like they should fit with a custom speaker pod but that asumes the maximum outer diameter of the speaker is 130mm.

I dont have a router so i might have a word with the DT teachers at 6th form, i get along well with them so it shouldnt be a problem to do some CNC work on some MDF in my spare time :)

Well, just got this (The thick one) so i've got an insentive to make some pods :)

Will let you all know how it goes if and when i finally get off my backside

And another reply to myself, might be a problem getting a 13cm in on the drivers side, the mounting hole is going to be very close to the instrumentation panel although i think it should just about fit

Lol ok well it's going to be a while as im a bit short of cash at the moment.

I need some speakers (Think i know what im going for - £25), MDF (About £9 from wickes) and possibly a jigsaw (£10 from focus)

Just bought some 13cm speakers :D

They're cliff designs which are meant to be very good, think they're only really sold in america. Have an RRP of over £200 and i got them for £35 inc. Asked the seller and the max outer diameter without mounting tabs is 128mm so they should be fine.

Now i just need to design the pods!

You bought them over the Arc KARs after then? Should sound good (y)

Yea, dont know if that was the right choice or not. Should be good either way. Which would you have gone for?

Well, made the basic shell today which took forever....they're a right bitch to get in!

The speakers need a pretty much sealed box so its either make the box upto the fabric or make a proper 6 sided box with loads of dodgy hard to cut angles. So i opted for tight against the fabric and it took me hours to get them mounted! No exageration.

Ended up spending the whole day making what appears to be a pretty simple design. I still need to make some grilles and get some paint on the MDF, will post some pictures soon.

Need to go to bed now, can feel the MDF dust in my throught and my eyes are sore. I now realise why they say wear a mask when cutting MDF!

I still need to make some grilles for mine, i chose to mount my speakers on the inside edge of the hole rather than the outside edge as they have tweeters which stick out a fair way so internal mounting is the only way i can get something stealthy.

Does anyone know if focus or homebase sell MDF/hardboard etc around 3mm? I know wickes do but thats a bit of a trek
