My Brother last year purchased a very nice second hand Stilo Sporting 1.8 (05 plate) which has been almost perfect!! Last year the revs kept dropping low and the engine cutting out. A mechanic friend cleaned the cam sensor  which fixed the problem.....until now!! The revs have started dropping again and the car has no power. The engine has also cut out before....on the M6 !!

The engine diagnostic light has also come on showing fault codes
P0204 (injector circuit malfunction cylinder 4) and P0638 (throttle actuator control range/performance Bank 1).....only 1 question..what does this actually mean!!

The cam belt is also up for a change as the cars done almost 70K miles. The only issue we have is that a local mechanic said he can't find the car in his cam belt handbook so can't quote how much a cam belt change will cost (we are not using this mechanic!!!) but was wondering how much a cam belt is likely to cost!?

Any help would be muchly appreciated from a stressed out Sister trying to fix her Brothers bloomin car :worship:!!

go to Eurocarparts.com and find the price of the kit, when going to the basket use code GGTIUK25 as a voucher, gives you 25% off

this is the problem my wifes 1.6 had last year, it transpired that the cam belt had actually stretched and put all the sensors out of sync (not visual by eye but when you lined the old belt to the new belt it was apparent just how much it had stretched over time).
once i changed the belt the faults were cleared and the car got its mojo back with no lights or fault codes.
the constant cut outs were rather annoying,
her car was at 72k so its on the nose for the fault.

Its going in for a cam belt change tomorrow so fingers crossed that sorts all the problems out. Fingers crossed!!

You were correct!! Cam belt changed for £200 and now all the problems are fixed! No more engine diagnostic lights and it drives like it use to so thank you :)

excellent, im glad its sorted, the stilos cambelt has very little tolerance for wear, probally a good thing as this warned you the belt was about to let go, this was the case on ours.
I was chasing my tale for weeks on this though as the service had been stamped at 60k for timing belt (before we bought her), like you i was pulling sensors etc before it crossed my mind to check the belt. Our belt was obviously original as well, i will now never deal with that garage again (even though i only payed 1.9k nearly 4 years ago for her).

Unfortunately I was wrong about the cam belt as the problem came back about 2 weeks later and we started losing acceleration again.

We took it back the garage and had a new battery fitted (the car wouldn't start at all) which again (temporarily) fixed the problem but about 2 days later we lost power and the engine light reappeared.

The mechanic seems to think its the throttle accelerator thats gone which is going to cost about £200.00 for parts and labour so fingers crossed this fixes it once and for all!
