How easy is it to fit new springs? Im tempted to get some and do it myslf but not sure how hard it is. If not, how much has anyone paid to have it done?

Im gonna get some -30mm ones soon and then some alloys as soon as Ive saved up. :D Im looking at some 15's from performancealloys.com

Pray to the God of Abarth - I hope your speed over your rivals and anyone else at the traffic lights

From what I've heard it's supposed to be a straight forward job. But that's if you know what you're doing. I opted to have the garage I bought mine from to fit them, they charged me £70 in total.

I had a shop in Doncaster do mine called Top Gear Performance. They're bang on people. I also got my alloys ordered/fitted from there and they're also official Powerflow Exhaust builders/fitters.

The safety issue is using the spring compressor, if you get it wrong with that you can hurt yourself. Otherwise, if you're sensible it's just following the manual and about three to four hours work.

Hei.

It will take you 7 hours including a large pizza meal if you want to do it yourself (both springs and shock absorbers). If I were you I would replace the shock absorbers as well with stiffer ones (gas), because you have to remove the the front pair anyway, and the rear pair is not much of extra time.

I had never ever done anything like this before, but me and my brother drove my Uno down to the pier to have a nice surrounding and started working. You will need some metric tools (not measured by inches). And you HAVE TO GET a spring compressor - or you might die when the spring bearing hits your head.

The rear springs are just to pull out and press back in.

Save your money and do it yourself. Also you can brag about it afterwards, and explain to your friends how you did it.

Morten.

ive been looking at the spax RSX kit. Its a coilover system isn't. How easy do you reckon that is to fit?

I wanna drop to the deck but dont think the 15's will let me

Spax RSX's are cool but for that money also consider FK automotive coilovers.
They will be as easy to fit as normal suspension, but the hardest bit is setting up the coilovers to how you want them.
Remember the sportings are -20mm lower than the other models so when you hear of people saying they lowered their non-sporting sei -40mm its only a -20mm drop for us.

yeah Ive seen the FK coilovers there 650quid. the spax are bou 350-400quid. The thing I like about FK's are the amount they'll drop. 80mm!!! thats really to the deck.
Id be fine with the rear suspension, its the front that looks quite tricky. You have to remove everything dont you.

I'm really not a fan of Spax stuff, I've heard a lot of horror stories, the FK stuff howevers really good quality (hence the price difference!). Bilstein also have a good reputation.

To take the front suspension off:

Loosen wheel nuts
Jackup car and make sure its not gonna fall off i.e. Use axle stands
Take wheel off
Undo three nuts holding the shock on at the top of the suspension turret under the bonnet, but don't take em off
Undo the two bolts holding the shocker in the wheel hub (17 and 19mm i think)
Take off brake hose from its holder
Take 3 nuts off from under the bonnet
Ta da.. front shocker complete with spring can now come out with a bit of wiggling about

Rears are piece off ****:

Undo lower shock mount with a little wiggling bolt will come out
Rear wheel will now fall down (watch your fingers!!!) and spring will fall out
Undo top mount on shocker (Bastard to do)
and rear shock will now come out

Easy init??

sounds easy, easier than how its descirbed in my haynes/max power mods book anyway.
do you actually take off the brake hose, i.e need to bleed system when done?
