Hi all

Since going to southend cruise on satuday im now obsessed with modding my car, i think the cheapest way which actually has some effect is to lower it with just changing the springs (because im cheap like that!!!)

Can anyone who have lowered there 3 door stilos give recommendations on whos springs i should use, also most companies only seem to do 30-35mm drop which looking a the 4x4 stance of my stilo doesnt really seem that much, does it look significantly different lowered 35mm?

If anyone can provide of what a lowered stilo looks like it would be much appreciated, i have found some fully adjustables that can lower it by 80mm which is extremely tempting but they're like £500!

Cheers

Matt

Has already answered this many times, have a look through some of the old threads.

80mm?? Thats a bit much isn't it? you'll be scrapping the deck :)

i wouldnt bother mate, you will have many problems with the stilo, i put low profiles on mine and overall has dropped about 1 inch.... because of that i cant go over a speed bump even very slow i have to put 1 wheel on.... i would imagine lowering aswell..

its the engine plastic cover below.. it is very low to the floor compared to the arches, i have also heard that to many hits from that the air conditioning pipe will be knocked out of place and its around £200 to fix, and doesnt cover the warranty!!

seriously i was thinking, but wouldnt mess with the fiat

Leon...................

I've lowered mine and it's been about a year now and I've never had one under car hit and my street is a pedestrianised 20mph zone with speedbumps as big a Paul Polishs' head!

The one thing putting me off..

Is I often drive up tracks when going to horse events, often these consist of two ruts gauged out by big offroaders with a ridge down the middle, the car has touched the deck a couple of times as it is, luckily tho I go so slowly it has just brushed the plastic tray.

My advice, If you have 17" alloys lower your car by 35mm It brings the wheelsa nicely into the arches. It makes the car look good without compromising on ride quality or the worry of grounding. 80mm is far too low and IMHO would make your car practically unusable.

cheers Phil

had a closer look at mine and it seems for the arches to be so big, there isnt a lot of clearance under the engine, and there are loads of scratches on the plastic now, and i havent even lowered it!!! over ever speed bump too

Mines lowered and it doesn't scrape................

however, I have scraped the valance that sits under the front bumber, but that's what it's there for, it's the soft rubber bit that his the deck before your bumper does, but to date I've hit no other part of my car and we have some pretty big kerbs and speed bumps around here!

Re: Mines lowered and it doesn't scrape................

Yep, agree with TC, it is just the front valence that is sitting under front bumper - no major harm done as such, just sounds a lot worse.....

Re: Mines lowered and it doesn't scrape................

And there was me thinking the thick rubber lip under the front bumper was an aerodynamic aide, made of a softer material so it wouldn't get ruined by speed bumps.

Surely if its there to protect the bumper it doesn't do a very good job by effectively lowering the front of the car, therefor hitting the ground sooner and pushing up and putting the bumper under greater stress than if it wasn't there at all. Afterall, pull it off and you've got close to 2 inches greater clearance. ;)

no cus its flexible, it doesnt do any harm,

anyway peeps, do you think mine is a problem then? the plastic protector under the engine actually sits lower? cus i really have to be carefull even at 2mph, without lowering it!?

just rung my local!

said I have to look under to see if it has dropped, said it wouldnt be my low profiles,

and if it has i would have to pay because it would be classed as accident damaged!!!! how crap is that

if it has dropped it int gona be something obvious, it would be because of the crap arms that hold it!!!!!!

oh and another thing, it is only there 4 airodynamics, and noise reduction!!!

Thanks all for your input, ive currently found some H&R springs that should lower the car 40mm which is what im going for at the moment unless something else jumps out and says buy me.

I know the 80mm drop would be totally impractical and i doubt id even get my car out of my road but it would have been cool to say ive lowered my stilo 80mm.

Anyways cheers

Matt

Hey.. guys.. if uve got the cash you should think about getting ajustable spring suspension kit, i had 1 on my punto and it was great, the only thing with just getting replacement springs is that the rid is quite stiff, on adjustables you ajust the spring to suit your style of ride. But they are quite expensive.. a website that sell any thing and everything for modding fiats is? Ive brought loads from here for my Punto and found them great and really helpful with any problems!
