Not only are my breaks failing every 20 minutes or so, I have now the added problem of having no ignition key. Lord only knows where it's gone, but I've searched high and low. I am about to drill the lock, in an effort to get her to the garage to have her breaks fixed. Is there any other way of getting a replacement key without ballsing up my lock? I've never hotwired a car before, and am reluctant to do it!

If there's no other option, then advice on hotwiring would be equally appreciated! It's a 1986 Sisley. Doors are open, so that's one lock out of the way.

:bang:

Thanks folks!

Paddy

Can I just ask how do you get into the vehicle in the first place with no key?! :p

If you get the barrel out a locksmith should be able to make you up a key. I did that once with a door lock I got from a scrappy.

I assume your Sisley is like all early mk2's with a seperate key for ign and door locks. If so then this comment will be no good. But might be worth doing as BR has suggested and removing a door lock and taking to a locksmith to make a key.

If all else fails and you are still thinking of hot wiring her PM me and I'll tell you how to hot wire her without causing damage but I'm not about to explain the method on an open forum for obvious reasons.

Ok i'm no car thief and can't say i've tried these techniques but I suspect a Panda isn't the hardest car to break into. These are the 3 techniques I know of.

1. Pandas locks are susceptable to the old coathanger down the window with a hook to pull up the lock pin.
2. Apparently if you put half a tennis ball over the key hole (must have a good seal) and squash the ball into the lock (like a toilet plunger- actually a plunger might work better) the shock of air through the lock can turn it. Would need to see that to believe it though.
3. Last method. Grab the top of the door an pull hard. You'll be able to pull the top of the door open so that a friend can reach in and pull the lock. But you'll risk bending the door frame, crooks do this then bend the door back but, it's not ideal. You might be able to make a lasoo with a thin pipe, threaded with a piece of string so there's a loop out one end of the pipe. Then you won't need to pull the door out quite so far.

Number one is best, number two won't work (only works on cars with Pnumatic central locking systems) and number 3 is what scum normally use when wanting to cause the most damage on purpose :(

A pnuematic, that makes sense, wondered how that was meant to work Yeah don't try that method!

As for bending the door, it's arguably the method scum use to cause the least damage, becuase once they're in and the doors bent back, there's no obvious damage. I reckon Panda doors are feeble enough to prise open enough to get a small hook or pipe with lassoo through the gap without damaging the door. That said I would try and hook the lock under the glass first.
