Hi All,

I have an 09 bravo and has noticed that my break pedal has some play in it. Car brakes fine but sometimes the brake lights stay on when I'm not braking!! Very annoying. Has anyone else had this problem?? If so is it easy to fix or is it a garage job??

Cheers
Mike

Sounds like the brake pedal switch has gone out of adjustment. Failing that then it is the pedal return spring that is possibly the problem.

I suggest you get your head down in the footwell, remove any lower pedal cover, and have a good look.

What you should see is that on the brake pedal arm is small plate/tab that presses against a switch (will little plunger/button). The switch is most probably located with a collar that allows the switch position to be adjusted.

I'm not familiar with the Bravo setup but on many other Fiats the should naturally return to a high position EITHER limited by the switch body itself once the plunger is pressed in OR by some other form of mechanical stop.

Mike - did you get anywhere with this? my pedal is the same, and light also stays on sometimes; also think this is contributing to a loss in power occasionally.

will have a look at the pedal today and see if anything can be firmed up as the pedal feels quite slack compared to the others.

its the switch guys, i had the same problem, loses all power when going over bumps, just get your head under the pedals, turn the ignition on, push the brake all the way in and play about with the switch that the brake pedal pushes up, i unscrewed mine a bit and it hasn't happen since(y)

Cheers - will have a look at it with headlamp on. i'm sure i have tried before, and ended up loosening the switch right off.

will this reduce the amount of 'play' in the pedal too?
