Hi Paul,

Service costs have ranged from £150 to £500 inclusive, but the cambelt change is due soon so thats a big one!!

You imagine the gearbox is like an Auto, but its not. It is a manual gearbox with an automatic clutch so you have no drag in "drive" or in "gear" should I say. This why Everyone will say drive it 1st as its no where as smooth as an "auto" but just as lazy.

When you stop its like a manuel car in 1st gear with the clutch down so you have to hold the car as if you are driving a manuel car until you are ready to set off again, this is why my girlfriend dislikes it as she sees it as to complicated its neither an auto or a manual in her eyes (too much to take in)

The advantages are when you shut the engine off in gear it automatically engages the clutch, hence backing up the handbrake so the car should never roll away when parked, also when you restart the car it automatically starts in neutral, clever little car.

Another advantage is if the car needs to be towed, no damage will come to the gearbox as long as neutral has been selected, unlike fully automatics that can not be towed or towed very short distances. Found this out when the AA recovered the car after the radiator fan failure.

There are some fantastic deals on new Abarths at the moment so go get one, at least you realise that its not an investment as I do and just enjoy everyone including other dealer salesman looking at it in wonderment when you explain what the car has got and how little you paid for it.

BARGAIN.

Jim :)

Its always a good thing that the lady friend can't drive it as mine has a tendancy of having arguments with kerbs and hte wheels

As for it being a bargain what kinds of deals should I be looking at doing with fiat ?

I got mine from dixon motors who are owned by bank of scotland along with Jamjar.

I paid £12,500 for mine with an alarm and chargeable paint - mine was one of last 03 spec cars and was of course fully loaded with all the goodies! At the time the factory had huge backlogs and I had to wait 6 months for the car to be built, but it was worth the wait. If you like the sound of the old 5 cylinder quattros you'll love the 2.4 unit in the Abarth!

6 months to get used to ?
I've had the car 10 days and im totally used to it now and i've been driving manuals for 18 years.. very 1st day i had it was a bit of a problem especially when your instincts kick in and you use the brake like a clutch..but since then its been perfect.
