Technical location of engine number?

Here's a silly question, so hopefully someone will be able to answer it.

I have had to have the engine replaced in my 1.3 diesel, so need to update the log book. However, I don't know which of the series of numbers stamped on the engine I should use. The original one was an 8 digit number, and all I can find is a 9 digit number and a 14 digit alphanumeric.

Please can anyone shed any light on this?

I can't help with the engine number location, just curious as to why the engine needs replacing though

Not too sure if this post is of any help but my bet would be on the 9 digit if you include the full stop.

Thought Maxi might like this one (what you get when you're being helpful) and for the '2nd part' a set of Spax adjustables can cause havoc with the engine.
