Fiat Panda Engine Number

Hi,

We're taking our Fiat Panda (Pinky) right th way across the Sahara Desert on the Plymouth Banjul Challenge.

Apparently the border guards take your V5C registration document really seriously, particularly the engine & chassis numbers, which they cross check against the car. Our chassis number is fine, matches the V5C no problem. The engine number is a different matter.

According to the V5c our engine number is K33/5250 the chassis plate says the engine is 156A2.246 and according to the gospel according to Haynes

"the engine number is stamped on the cylinder block coolant pump housing at the front of the engine above the oil filter cartridge"

No sign of the wretched thing, Ive cleaned wire brushed twiddled and stared in all sorts of different lights to no avail. Just a rusty expanse of cast iron.

Is it anywhere else on a Fire engined 1000cc Panda?

Which of the 2 numbers sounds right K33/5250 or 156A2.246?

Any advice on what I should do to re-instate the engine number?

Thanks in advance

Culpitt

Re: Fiat Panda Engine Number

Hi,

156A2.246 = The engine type code, used by Fiat to indentify the engine

Your engine no. should have no letters in it, however just like you when i looked for one on my 999cc Fiat Uno FIRE engine it also doesn't have one.

You have two options a) look for a code on the head and remember this or b) create your own (n.b. this may not be legal, at your own risk etc....) engine no. buy or borrow a set of metal no. punches and create your own. Then send the V5 of to the DVLA with the new engine code, no need for any other paperwork as you have just 'changed' your egnine for one exatly the same.
