Technical lights and levels

i already posted this in general but not had any replies yet so i thought i'd try here, sorry for the repeat

Hey all,
this is probably a bit of a morons question but i'm having difficulty locating the oil filter on my HLX 2.0 20v 2000. i got a replacement filter from my local motor factors but i am sure they gave me the wrong type. is it an inline filter or a standard ford escort 1990 type of effort?? also, i got the engine management light on and quite a concerning loss of power, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. it's not that i'm incapable but this is my first fiat and would like to know my way round it a bit better.

do you mean oil or fuel filter.AFAIK theres no such thing as an inline oil filter(bar some remote applications)
oil filter will be on the engine block as with other cars like F*rds.if its a fire engine on the front drivers side.
as for the engine light thats more of an issue. if the cars down on power and running roughly? then it may be in 'get you home mode' which is the ECU's way of protecting the engine from damage when something is malfunctioning.
how long has the light been on?
