General Lighter socket - too small/shallow

i might have to try halford - i know they do illuminated one - so i can stick my orange surround on not the nasty green

But as u've said - take sumthing that dont fit - and test it in theres

I will need to change mine other wise i'll be using tape to hold the satnav charger in :p

Ziggy

Tried that. Trouble is the adaptor thingys even pop out of the Punto hole too.

I also have this problem, and my friend dont, he has a Marea weekend
I use it for mp3 FM modulator.

Anyway, i found 4 positions in which it doesnt move, its like you have 2 contacts that stick out a bit on the appliance itself, and some that stick out in the lighter hole. Try to put it in so these 2 fit one on another exactly.

@littlepip its not that its not designed for any modern car, its just that Punto hole is shallow :D Why shouldnt I use it for other stuff then lighter, its a 12V socket not a lighter only socket? Only argument could be constant power consumption where lighter works for few seconds only

i'm just saying cigar lighters came first then everyone else made things that nearly not quite almost fit in them

as far as i'm concerned if it has the bimetallic strip in the bottom to hold the lighter untill it's hot then that's all it should be for

also as the bimetallic strip comes up the sides a bit it's easy to pop the fuse with certain appliances i am fitting fuses regularly at work for this reason and when you look at what the customer had in it you see why

some cars now like the doblo for example have plugs with a plastic cap saying 180 watts or something for example these are true power plugs deep enough to hold most things and crucially wont work a cigar lighter

just pointing out there is a difference and people shouldnt expect the cigar lighter plug to do anything else well

by all means take it out and fit a proper power plug following the advice already in this threat about the different sizes
