Hi all

just been into my local motor factors because i thought i would change the fuel filter before it started to rain......

Anyway i asked him for one and he responded after looking on his parts computer that they are a lifetime fuel filter on the mk2 punto. Is this correct?

Yep, in the tank around the pump (y)

Does he sell lifetime cigarettes as ill buy a couple of them too...
Never heard of a lifetime filter before. Is it just the sheer size of it (as it surrounds the pump), the fact that such small amounts pass through each section of the filter, thus reducing area likely to be clogged vs time, that qualifies it as a lifetime filter?

I just thought it would be a good idea to change the filter as it was service time, i ran some injector cleaner through instead as you cant change the filter

Basically yes. As you say/point out the filter in these large pump/filter units has a very large surface area, unlike the traditional large cork sized inline filters.

Also I think the these integral filter/pump assemblies get naturally "back washed". Debris that gets trapped is later washed/dropped back down into the base of the fuel tank. As long as the debris level is not excessive then no real problems occur.
