I know this question is a bit like how long is a piece of string, but...

how long does the average life of a laptop battery last?

think i've had my laptop just over 12 months and the battery is playing up, it doesnt hold its charge and dies without even bleeping now, so no warning.

cheers!

well i used to get about 4hrs from my dell with XP.

only get 2 now with vista even with a low power plan. :(

mines only 6 months old though. better last :D

6 months to 3 years+ (if you're lucky) - I have had one fail after 14 months (to a point where it held zero charge). My current one is 24 months old and still gives 120 minutes.

thanks

better get on the lookout for a replacement.

mine's a medion, any suggestions of where I could get one from? looked around and most seem to be from abroad!

its a medion MIM2120, battery series are MIM2120, MIM2130 and MAM2080

save the battery by not having it in your laptop when you arent using it so it doesn't keep overcharging and use the powerlead when you can, also i heard putting them in a freezer for a bit can fix them but it didn't sort mine.

Think its totally had it now, as it just keeps switching off even when it says its got battery left, as I can switch it back on, but then it goes off again :bang:

Why would putting it in the freezer maybe help? lol

it's meant to repair the cells, my battery has been dead for ages now so i threw it out the window when the freezer didn't help it lol

the chinese ones from ebay are good., i bought 2 for my HP laptops and there going strong., even the original ones didnt last as long as these and they seem to last forever too.,(y)

vtec - was just looking at them on ebay and wondering if they ok, so thanks for that!

Yep that's what I do too. Haven't had to use the battery for at least a year now; I wonder if it still can hold a charge :chin:

i remove my battery and throw it back in every month and put it on "discharge mode" to fully drain the battery, then charge it back up after a compleate drain.i get two and a half hours out of my battery, just like when i bought it 8 months ago. ohh and the freezer should be fridge. some can crack when frozen which is really dangerous. so the fridge trick only helps keep the battery from dischargeing. thats why in AZ when most car nuts put a car in storage, the battery goes in the fridge . it can't repair the cells. also keep you normal batteries in the fridge. they give you a stronger charge that lasts longer that way, heat kills batteries.

mine does ieven work at all now :bang:

as soon as power cable comes out laptop goes straigh off suks

This one lasts well, I got it off e-bay for about £40. The factory fit lasted about 18 months and never gave the life this one does. I do discharge it sometimes, Ive got the old one in the carry bag it still gives 1/2h life and that can make all the difference sometimes. This m/c is a Dell Inspiron.
