Lancia Delta Advice

When it comes to experience of these cars at 20 + years of age, I'm afraid I'm pretty useless; but, I had 2 of these when they were new as I worked for a Lancia dealer between '82 and '84. (or was it '85?) Anyway, as well as using
a Y10 Turbo, I also used a 1.6GT and 1.6 HF & 1.6 HFie. I left there and went
straight to a Ford dealer, more money but less soul. Because of this I was able to directly compare the Lancias with XR3, XR3i and RS Turbo.
The thing I noticed most was the difference between Essex and Empoli. Black,
and Grey with red stripes or muted check cloth. In your face telephone dial alloys or discrete multi-spokes and perhaps most significant was the fact that
all the 1.6 Deltas had the same size tyres, 165s! Even the XR3 had 185s. I felt that was important, because in my younger, (more) stupid days I used to look for XR3i/RS/GTE/GTIs to bait. In all honestly, I can say the HFie was better than any of them. Considering it was under-tyred that showed the chassis was inherrantly better than all the rest. There were one or two people
who up-tyred theirs to 185s but I never drove any of them. I always felt that
whether Martini, Grigio or Rosso, they managed to look better and more classy then all of them with the possible exception of the VW. I always felt as
if everybody looked at the Delta with envy. Maybe that they really wanted one but didn't have the balls so went for a Ford or VW instead.
Given a choice, I'd have to choose the Italian over any of its rivals, but, I'd have to make that decision with my heart and not my head. Use your head, then without a doubt a 205 would be a better choice. Or a VW or in fact any of them but the Delta. But if you're making the decision based on what your heart tells you, it would have to be the Torinese.
Good luck and I hope it all works out. If it does, maybe I can sit in it some time and waffle about the old days. I'll try not to drool on the upholstery. It won't be drooling with lust but simply alzheimers.

integrales were only ever built as LHD, there were a few converted by John Whalley or Mike Spence IIRC at great expense when either new or near new.

The cosmetics i.e dash board etc are from RHD models but were the purity is lost is in the mechanical changes.

integrales are often cited as having just about the best steering in terms of feel, feedback & directness of it, whereas on RHD conversions they used the rack from a Fiat Regata which meant there was an extra turn lock to lock and a loss of feel, tho many are prepared to accept this to drive on the correct side for this country. There is also mean to be a little change in brake peddle feel, though having never driven a RHD one can't really comment only go on what has been written on the owners forums.

eagle eye chas!!! yes it was converted from new 1 of 20 i believe, and ive got the letter from lancia voiding the warranty from 3k ha ha, i would of had a left hooker no probs but a bit of a bonus it being r/h i suppose as the misses can take for spin and not bash it in lol, and i can safely thrash it around anything in my path, FRAAAPPPP!!!! just sourcing parts at the mo as am going to run 16v loom with 3 bar map sensor, got strut braces new oe shocks with eibach springs, intercooler mod, g/s flowed head and performance cams, stainless pipe, uprated breathing system, new roof panel, 2 front doors and tailgate, just need some correct wheels and rear spoiler, and maybe sills which i cant find, only from autointegral, which are hand made no oe, but prob repair them as not to bad would of been ok if previous repairers hadn't jacked the fook outa them, straighten them and plate them,, going to start very soon, just been busy getting all my jobs done on the golf and UT,, did all my rubbers on the front of g2 on sat arb's tca's etc Ant!

The 16V integrals run two map sensors 2bar and 3bar as standard so if running 16V loom you will end up with wiring for both so may need both.

Rear spoiler only fitted to EVo models as standard as it actually reduces the cd back to the same as the narrower 8/16V models compensating for the increased width and frontal area.

Genuine 2nd hand adjustable aluminum spoilers are very expensive now, I've seen them go for £300+ but bargains as always do pop up. There are grp one piece fixed spoilers but mean to sag and not be that nice, there are also carbon fiber ones from Enrico the guy who runs http://www.scara73.it/ very easy to deal with, and all his parts are meant to be pretty good.

If you are really serious about tuning it you can get the 16V ECU upgraded to be able to run lambda control, wasted spark, coil packs, FORD EDIS system allowing use of MCD high power coilpack or coil over plug set ups, anti-lag etc etc

All done by RP Labs, send them your ECU and money and it returns with new baby board faster processor, so can do anything an aftermarket ECU can do, but is plug and play and has a standard Lancia map to get you going so all hard stuff like cold start mapping and idle control are taken care of.

I'll bring a towel to put on my lap to stop the drool getting on the seats. Talking of towels, I seem to remember some of the sportier Deltas had Recaro seats that looked like a cross between a cheap bath towel and a Blackpool deckchair. Not as tasteful as some Lancia fabrics, but then we are talking about the'80s here.

I wonder if anyone can help? I am the executor of a will that includes a Lancia Delta Integrale which we need to sell. Neither she nor I know very much about them, so I'm looking to some expert - ideally local to Dorset - to take a look at it and tell us exactly what we have got. I'm quite happy to pay a fee and/or expenses; I don't want to end up selling something that I don't understand. i THINK it might be an Evo30, if that makes sense?

It's had a full body refurbishment (but in what I suspect is a non-standard maroony colour; it used to be white), and looks lovely, and goes like stink, and corners amazingly. After that, I get a little vague.

I'll be in Dorset, where the car is, on 1st & 2nd Feb so in a perfect world I'd do something then. Alternatively, if you're not that sort of expert, I'd appreciate being pointed at someone who is.

All feedback welcome.
