Hi, :)
no idea what motor you've got, but generally without a signal pack from the probe you'll get a MIL , and engine MAY go into "limp mode",

change it;)

The engine will run, but in a very rich mixture mode and thus not economical.
If the old one still works, just put in back and if not replace it. If you buy a new one, have a close look on the wiring, some need to be (re)wired, some are plug and play.

I got my self a new lamba sensor and just my luck it needs re-wiring. Can any one help?
The original lamba sensor has a single plug with 4 wires.
New lamba sensor has 2 plugs, 2 wires in each plug. Any help would be much appreciated

take it back or splicing wires will be required, i had same problem on my mk1 55, you could get 2 plug connectors from scrap yard, stick that in new lambda, cut old lambda connector and stick in car connector and then wire it together

or cut both lambda connectors off, and wire it
