Technical Knocking - steering rack?

Just had my Multi serviced by a local, mobile mechanic. Seemed to know his stuff. Asked him to take her for a drive, to check the suspension, the ride comfort etc. I get a knocking from front right of the car when going round quick left bends, and the ride is generally harsh. He said the shocks, bushes, roll bar etc all looked OK but showed me some play at the wheel and said it is play in the steering rack.

I don't think I've seen this mentioned in the forum, all threads lead to roll-bar bushes. I suppose any steering rack in any car can get loose, but is it known on Multiplas?

She's 7 years old and just shy of 60,000 miles. He said she's in surprisingly good condition for a FIAT of her age but added that in his 25 years of experience FIATs aren't built to last as long as Japanese cars.

had a simular problem after the front suspention was done on the recall the garage had damaged the `drop links ` and that caused a knocking ,like hitting a large pot hole fixed free of charge
