i am getting a knocking noise from the front of the car when i brake or go over bumps. it is definately not the interior. i thought it may be the front pads getting thin and clapping on the discs but iv since replaced them and no joy! it feels like the whole section to the right is pulling back but iv checked out the wishbone and drive shaft ect but it all seems solid anyone had a similar prob?

suspension

Sounds like a knackered shock absorber, or maybe even a cracked spring.

Does the car sit level? Have you done the 'bounce test' to check the shocks?

It could also be suspension bushes or a wheel bearing: jack the car up and look for any play in the hub, track rod ends and front strut.

Wish Bone

I had the same problem, on the front wheel, get the wish bone check, these are week on Fiats and the thread on the bolts sound like there are going thats why its knocking.

I had a similiar problem with an old Manta. A funny ticking or knocking noise coming from the front when going over bumps or rough roads. Turned out to be a shock absorber, but the shock looked OK and behaved itself in the main (so the bump test proved nothing). Replacing it solved the problem

knocking noise - X reg Brava

My X reg Brava has just developed a knocking noise from driver's front wheel area when going over bumps !
Sound familiar? I have also noticed there is evidence of leakage of a liquid on the spring behind the wheel?
Any idea what has happened and should this occur on a X reg model ?

Bushes

Had a similar problem on the near side front of my 18 hlx + it pulled the left. The inner rear bush of the wish bone had "come unstuck" from its housing and worn to become loose , I changed the wish bone (You can't get the bushes) , which did have a very weak threads on its inner mounting & had to replace one bolt and I had to break off the nuts of the old and new parts (welded on)then weld the old nut to the new wish bone.
This stopped to knocking but to correct the handling it had to be tracked and have new front tyres. I theink the other side is also knackered now...

Started knocking at about 30000 miles on near side and 45000 miles on the off side ( The near side oviously gets more abuse in the UK) . My previouse car managed to reach 140000 miles without replacing these.(Renault 5 1.7 GTX ) However it did eat a clutch cable at least once every year. The Bravo dosn't..
