Hello all,
Girlfriend locked her keys in the trunk of her 81 spider. Any ideals on how to get it open without body and paint damage.

Thanks,
John

Or go to a lock specialist to pick it professionally. Hopefulyl they'd ask for some proof that it's her car before breaking in.

I reckon that car will probably have a ski hatch, a lot of 70's cars did, as skiing was 'in' then:rolleyes:

so you could poke your arm in there and find it.

OR

remove rear seats (backrest is usually bolted in from the front).

OR

is it a softop??
in which case you may be able to carefully remove roof and get into boot that way.

OR

locksmith, but they could damage boot lock, unlikely though

Hi, have know idea what a 81 spider is but if its an old car then the best and safest was to get in is to use the old "whacking" trick. a lot of older cars can be opened this way ESPECIALLY fiats even up to 98-99. what you need is a similar type key to your own one preferably a worn one, put it in the lock and giggle it up and down whil putting light pressure on it to turn, try not inserting it all the way in and it should unlock the car easy enough.

the reason this works is because the pins in the barrel get worn over time, especially the drivers door, ignition and the boot and tend to get stuck in the open possition so you only have to move them a little and they should line up correctly to open the door. This is a very common method used by theives because it is very quick and doesnt require any tools.,,
if it works for ya, you may want to concider getting an immobiliser.,.,
good luck,.,.

You cant get in the Trunk[Americans call it this and JW BOW is American!] from inside the car. 124 locks are poor and use a one sided key so are easy to pick. The lock will be well worn so as said previously use a similar old style key and it should pop open. If not, its a lock smith job[about 5 secs]. Ive opened one before now with 2 small screwdrivers with no lock damage.

Andyone Very stiff wire and a very thin flat head screw driver will get you into it in about 5 seconds with no skill required. Put bent driver in and apply a small amount of pressure to the turning direction of lock. Then use wire to slide in and out pushing the pins. Should be a 4 pin lock. Most start as pin 4 then 1,2,3
