I have lost the only key i had for a w reg 2000 punto.
i have got the mob code from fiat and got a new key from global security
but not sure which transponder chip should be put in the key, they checked and put a t6 chip in it but when a friend of mine who has the equipment for
reprogramming the key tried to reset it complained about the type of chip in the key.
Does anyone know which chip i should have put into the key, i know there is a t5 and also a id48. Any help gratefully accepted thanks in advance!!

Most likely you have a mk2 Punto which is ID48. You need diag equipment to program key and car. I have a couple here if you are stuck.

i have a code2 key with the remote built in. just had a quote from fiat for replacement...

£200 !!

the remote in my key is starting to fail. tbh i might just get a new alarm if its cheaper, then i could just have normal key with no remote built in

Trade price for a blank transponder key about £8
Trade price for megamos type id48 transponder £8
Then you need a friendly dealer to program it to car, about 1/2 an hour.

It really should not be in the £200 spectrum.

Code 2 keys can be programmed by many locksmiths, not at Timpsons etc.
Tony.

N.B. Just for interest these keys codes do not "roll", what happens is that the body computer sends a request that is random, the key uses its internal algorith to send back a calculated answer, this is checked for accuracy by the body computer.

Thanks someone who knows what their on about.

But dont try and tell people on here that the code2 system can be programmed because the magic rolling code cannot be programmed by anyone apart from fiat

reddy4bed dont suppose you know how to either change/bypass the login for the ecu to program in keys or know how to retrieve the code from the ecu dump?

Paul-, I looked into this some time back and thought the problem was quite difficult.
First the key copy idea.
They have 2 memory blocks, The one which operates on the algorithm is easily writable, but cannot be read. I guess this is the code No which fiat applied to the car.
The other block has a id No which is locked by suppliers, this is the No which is in the body computer and is used to recognise the key after its loaded.

There is programs out there which can unlock the id and copy the id from a working one, But they cost>£1000 last time I looked. In addition to this you would need the car specific code from Fiat to load the algorithm.

There's a good possibility that re-flashing the ecu will virginise it cos I haven't seen any unlock progs for sale, talking the iaw59f here. With the body computer, emptying the eeprom could make it virgin.

Eventually I decided that even if I could do it the returns would not be that great, after all a £150 key is nothing like a £900 ecu etc, which can be required on the MK1 Punto etc.
Tony.

I know you can get a fiat machine like the key cloners, which you have to connect to one of the ecu memory chips.

I've got immo killer 1.1 that will virginize the ecu from the dump from the ecu, which can be achieved by either cuting open the plastic on the ecu and using touchpins to read/write the memory chip.

Or by drilling a hole in the plastic and enabling boot mode on the ecu and using a flash lead such as kwp2000 to read/write the ecu

I've got sbb immo programmer that states it can program the keys, but it needs the login code thats on the key code card, but my ecu set isn't the oringal so I can't get it from fiat.

I think I'm going to dump the oringal ecu as I've still got it and flash it into the current ecu so I can obtain the key code from fiat, but I know for m3 version of the ecu the login code is stored in the engine ecu, so I may try to get the login code from the dump.
