Karbine's Golf Mkiv.

Introduction

Hey guys. As some as you know I sold my Punto mk1 and decided I wanted something different altogether. Something a little more luxurios spec wise and a nice interior.
So onwards and upwards I searched for a mkiv Golf.
Found one and picked it up last night from Newcastle with my Dad and Matty1303 from here.

It's got 104k on the clock and I paid £1250 in the end.
Paint work is pretty shabby but I'm not really that fussed. It's a 1.6 8v S (100ps) and has electric adjustable heated door mirrors, 5 doors with electric windows all round, PAS, adjustable steering wheel, 4 air bags, ABS steel wheels FTW! lol

I've got a few things planned but I'm not going to the extent of what I did with the mk1.
Plans are; Lower 45 or 50mm, OEM alloys maybe GTI or something (going to do a P/shop to see what they would look like gloss black), Debadge the rear and get a smaller Sharan badge and paint that black. Paint front badge too. And fit the box so that I have remote central locking rather than standard central locking. Maybe some other suggestions would be good :)

Anyway,, pics....

all pointless arguments and digs aside

Yeh thanks. Thought it would turn into this sort of debate. Nevermind.
The dash lights are the biz! Like plasma dials but less in your face - dimmer switch for them too :p

and the 5 doors are for easy access for letting out my hoes

The dash lights are the main reason to buy one over a Focus.... does it have the 'ambient' lights either side of the central courtesy light? - they glow red when you have the headlamps on to help you find 'stuff' scattered around the car / centre console.

Really miss those now I no longer have a VW.

Wow, really a major buying decision

Yeh it does. Little things like that, that made me go for it tbh. Little slight touches that sound really stupid explaining them on FF but in reality it's things my previous car lacked. Like the Lights on the edge of the doors when you open them so people see your car doors open, cup holders(!), 8 speakers as standard, timer on the interior light, timer on the windscreen washers, lockable glovebox, light on both sunvisors when mirror flicks open.

I'm a sucker for all the little VW touches - you missed the grab-handles with dampers in the hinges so they don't just 'ping' back when you let go. Also loved the little 'roller shutter' my last Passat had over the cup-holder / fag holder compartment between the gearstick and arm-rest (it had an electric handbrake, so you got a massive storage bin / arm-rest between the seats).

Not to forget the chilled glovebox and storage bin under the arm-rest.... and the boot lid that smoothly opened when you released it on the remote.

I could go on, but I'll just bore everyone!

I haven't noticed that *runs outside to check*
But yup, so far I'm loving it :)

Nice car mate, bet its fast flat out mate.(y)

Looks good condition and more luxeries and extras than the mk1 punto

Will look great after you done modding it did a great job on the punto know ul do a great job on this aswel, as i always say its good to be different mate mix it up abit innit bud(y)

You can make these cars look so cool and slick mate, debage & degrill top half that runs across headlights at the front looks amazing after that mate. I i seen one with degrilled bumper aswel but that might be a bit costy and tricky to do but i think the debadge and degrill is just a case of poping out old grill and replacing with a debadged grill(y)

Hope you enjoy your new car mate, keep us posted with pics and progress yeah mate

It looks nice Dan. Whats up with the paint exactly? as it looks good in the pics.

Ive just got a 1.8 Bravo 45k nice and straight body but some good scratches from country lane bushes. I think most will t-cut out but that sort of stuff is last on my list of things to do for now.

Car looks quite nice, finally converted to 5 doors :p

But to be honest, i dont seem why you bought it.

I think you should of stuck with your mk1, as youve got like 8months before going away to uni, where you wont be taking car for first year.

personally find it a bit silly, and lost money from your last car, but up to you.

It does look quite well in the pictures but it has scratches on pretty much every panel! :( The previous owner has had a dog and let it run up the sides apparently! And it's been tocuhed up very very poorly.

I bought it.. because...I wanted something more safer(punto got 2 star ncap, this is 4/5) something more reliable, something a little faster (but was not on my priorities) and something with better spec and more comfortable. I just wanted a new car! LOL and I don't see why people have problems with me buying it haha
I'll be taking it with me to Uni.
