Hey chaps,

2 things....

I'm trying to remove my dash to change bulbs in heater dials but the jvc stereo will not come out!
Tried knives and other stereo removal tools but no luck, it's in well tight.

Anyone got any spare jvc keys to try, will pay :)

also....

My Xbox is hard-wired into my belkin router G+ mimo.

Was having problems with NAT settings but have now resolved this by setting a static IP address and opening the correct ports on the router.
Problem is I'm runnign a 4mb virgin line and normally only getting low signal (Halo 3 shows yellow all the time)

Have had full green before now.

Any ideas to try or would this just be bandwith of my street?

cheers for any replies

Darren

RE:

Hi,

Go to this site: http://www.bandwidthplace.com/

Do the speed test and let me know what it comes back as. although its a 4MB line, you'll hardly ever get the full 4MB. it depends how far away you are from the exchange really.

Thanks,

Lee

I'm on works comp at the moment.

Normally on speedtest.net I'm hitting the 4.1mb speed

Roughly between 3,800 - 4,100 mb

Only once was it 200k, but I was torrenting on pc and laptop :)
Even with virgin's limit between 4-9pm I'm still hitting well over 3mb

Speed on net is generally fine, just the xbox lags most of the time and all settings are open and working.

cheers

Darren

oh, and upload is normally around the 300k mark, which isn't too shabby I believe

RE:

Yeah 300k is quite good for upload.

What ports have you opened up?

Also, i know its very trivial, when was the last time you did a cold reboot of the router?

UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074

are the opened ports.
I did this due to the belkin router appling the nat restrictions whenever restarting the xbox.

My friend said to try static ip and ports which seem to have worked brilliantly. Done this to laptop and PC also and torrent speeds have quadrupled!

I'm not torrenting or anything while playing (all other comps are turned off)

I am restarting the router everyday just to make sure all is clean and running well.

Last hard reboot (factory settings) was a week ago when I decided to set static ip etc... (set up after reeboot)

I like to think I know what I'm doing most of the time but I'm stumped.

Perhaps I should just wait for the upgrade to 10mb to come in to play...

RE:

Its definately an issue with the router.

Im miles away from the exchange and have only a 2MB line but i still get green most of the time. Do you have a different router you can try??

also what are the firewall setting like on the router? Try turning the firewall off for a bit and see if it makes any difference.

good call, will have a look at the firewall.
didnt think about that.

Someone said about putting IP outside of router????
I don't understand this but I will have a look at firewall when I get home.

Have been searching the net and Xbox doesn't work the way I thought.

Apparently the Xbox servers set up the games and then someone hosts it....

I always thought the servers were running the games as well?

Anywho, will try firewall and hopefully my 10mb line will be in soon (lovely virgin upgrading for free :) )

Cheers for the replies chap, I'm still kinda new too networking.

oh, and whats ur live tag?
If you don't mind playing with someone who just plays for a laugh and isn't too good!

RE:

No Probelms! Yeah, usually you find that the game'll lag if the host has a rubbish line, by rule the host will be the player with the best upload speed. Same way the person who has the best upload has to be the party leader when you're trying to play movies.

Let me know if the firewall doesnt work.

My gamer tag is 'Acid NoX' - pronounced 'nox' not 'No X' lol :)
