Technical Jumping out of 5th

Our 52 115JTD has started jumping out of 5th; well to be precise it won't stay in at all unless you hold the stick very firmly in!

All the other gears are OK except it sometimes sort of sticks in a gear, but I suspect that's because the clutch is coming to the end of its life.

Any one have an opinion on what's going on - is it a recon box job, or something more minor!?

I'll answer that myself then ;-)

It's been to the garage, one possibility was that the rear gearbox mount was crumbling, and it might have been 'stretching' the gear linkage, but blocking the engine up proved that it wasn't that....so.....it's a new box :-(.

I knew the clutch needed doing anyway, so at least it's 'saved' the cost of taking the box out to do that.

Clearly the box isn't strong enough for the engine as I've never had one go on anything else at only 60,000 odd, but I don't imagine Fiat are interested in that - has anyone tried claiming from them?

SO it lookslike I'll have to grit my teeth and pay the bill, and sell it before the 120,000 comes up and it needs another recon box!
