Alrighty then,

anyone have prior knowledge of timing belt replacement on a phase 1 JTD ?. This is the brothers car, and he wants to change the water pump as well since its now on 115 K miles. but the bloody pump is partly behind the cam pulley and it looks like it will have to come off to get the pump out. Usefully, there's no matching holes in and behind the pulley to get a locking pin in. We could manufacture a tool to do it easily enough though.
Also, is the pulley keyed to the shaft ? and is it worth doing the water pump as well ?. I would think so after the 100k mark but what do ye think ?

not sure on the smokers, but from helping Ash out when we swaped his engine, i can say the pulley is keyed to the shaft yes. you will need to make locking tools for the oposite end of the shaft, that attach to the inspection point securing pins with a device to lock the cams

i would also recomend getting the waterpump done at the same time, i know it is comon practice on the hgt to do this all at once, and as the cars on 100 thou plus miles it would be better safe than sorry
