I wonder if anyone has any experience of the symptom I experience with my JTD and could offer any assistance.

I start her up no problem, but after 3 seconds or so maybe less or more, the revs dip for about 1-2 seconds I think as low as 600 as if to stall but then recovering to idle at about 900 rpm again. It does this every time I start up. Today the revs seemed to drop a little more strongly and then rise. Sometimes the engine feels like it is pulsing a little rather than smoothly running after the start up blip but just before I pull off. Is it because the engine is cold? Occasionally it feels like it is very slightly accelerating away although I do not have foot on accelerator.

Any ideas what could be causing this and likely cost to fix?

well, I dont have such problems with my jtd 100 but it also works different for the first 10 seconds when I start it up (temperature here in the morning is about -15C -10C)

But when it reaches its working temperature it runs like a dream

Same here. Slight dip after 5-10 seconds. Just a cold engine. No faults.

My Bravo 100 JTD HLX upon 1st start in the morning dips in revs ever so slightly, only lasts a sec but never goes down to 600rpms. Just drops about 50rpms from norm for 1 sec. Then its back to norm.

hi again, not sure whether it does drop to 600 but it is definately a lowering of the revs which then must be caught by some sensor to bring them back up to about 900 idling. After that it is fine no probs driving it. should i worry?

If it dips and a bit looses power its normal - when its cold it needs a bit of time till the MAF sensor gets to his required temp and thats how it makes a dip.

i have a hlx 1.8 petrol and had this same problem

It was the idle control valve sticking hence the idle level going up and down all the time. replaced it for one off a scrappy.

Does the jtd have an idle control valve?

The idle on the JTD is controled through the ECU, so no valve

It'll do that as the alternator pulls the engine revs down while it gives the battery a boost after using the starter. More noticeable with a cold engine because of oil and grease 'drag'.
