Not being funny, but how come I am getting a brand spanker tomorrow, when I only ordered it on Saturday?

Granted its not to any particular spec, just a standard 1.2 Lounge, but managed to talk my dealer into swapping the wheels with another new 500 on the forecourt.

I was told there are loads at the docks ready to be shipped out to dealerships, which they can get access too if not already with someone's name on.

Oh well, only 30 hours for me to wait now! LOL

I think you may have answered your own question! You are buying a standard spec car, so it can be supplied from stock.

My car has to be made as we have chosen a different colour and added factory fitted extras. There can be a chance that a similar car had been made up as a cancelled order or for a dealer forecourt, but it is much less likely. The dealer has checked for us, but we were not lucky. Had we wanted an orange, with black stripes, a '5' logo and everything else standard, we would be getting it next week! But we are both quite happy to wait for the right car for us.

So apart from maybe the nice leather seats that don't seem to be on any car unless a factory order, are there really that many things available for one that would make you wait 3 months for one?

The standard spec on the Lounge seems OK, and with all the extras you can buy from the Fiat website lets you personalise your own car.

Hey, not knocking it, you got to get the car thats right for you, just not sure I could wait that long for one. Hence we didn't!

When I went yesterday to put my deposit down on the 500 ive ordered, the sales guy said he had found one that would be about 4 weeks rather than 12, but I said i would rather wait! People may think im mad but as I am getting it on finance, I wanted a few more weeks to save up more deposit, and as Im trading in a 4x4 panda climbing 55 reg and not getting as much as its probably worth, i thought Id have a go at advertising it. finance etc isnt written in stone until I actually get the car so Id rather wait a bit longer and pay less on finance in the long run. My own fault for being seduced into getting a lounge with red leather instead of the pop i kept telling myself I was gonna buy!

the ESP can't be added after and I agree with nottsfiat07, we would rather wait and get everything we want. This is only our 2nd ever new car, the other is the multipla we bought 8 years ago. As we are spending what to us is a lot of money, we would rather have exactly what we want. We have also spent over a month choosing the colour and options too and have had 3 visits to dealers to drive different models and play with different options so I guess we are a little more obsessive than some :D

Not saying that everyone should do that, but it suited us. :D looking forward to seeing pics of your new car later this week.

You sound like youd get on with my mrs! she sat beside me in the showroom when I was deciding what to have, and basically told me to get the lounge with the spec I wanted because if i didnt, although I would luv the new car, I would always regret not getting the higher spec to save a few quid a month!

And she was right of course!

Wifey is good, wifey is wise! :ROFLMAO:

It's the first time I haven't bought a car straight from the dealer's stock and it's so much nicer being able to choose my extras - I know I didn't have much but was nice to have the parking sensors as factory fit (the ones on the Cmax and the Chrysler weren't factory fitted and not as good as on the 500 esthetically (sp)).

I was prepared to wait for the colour I wanted, the seats, the ESP etc etc. Suppose depends on whether you CAN wait - I never used to wait for anything before I had a child ...... now I've go so much more patience lol

Ive had a couple of new cars before but they were always already at the dealers, ordering "bespoke" is so much more an event, its gonna be like christmas when I was a kid again! everything these days is immediate so its good that fiat has reinvented the anticipation of waiting for something you really want! :D

Ooo it was great, the anticipation. Even when I knew the car was at the dealers and ready for me to collect on 1st sept, I waited until the time was right 2 weeks later ........ it was well worth the wait. Was out in the sun today with the sun shining on my beautiful pearly white paint and people looking at the car (hubbie washed it last night :)).

Definitely worth the wait!

I ordered mine on friday and ive dreamed about it both friday and saturday nights! I was quite conflicted when the guy said i could have one in 4 weeks, but Im glad Im waiting really. I have always liked fiats small cars, we had a cinquecento from new a few years back, we loved zipping about in that 900cc box! It was our only car and we never felt it was that slow, have to say my wife made it perform better than I did! We used to do youth work at that time, and we would buzz about with 4 kids in it, they took the mick when they first saw it but once they had seen Chris whisk it about the road they gave it a lot of respect! :D

I know exactly what you mean. This is the second car i've bought from new. The first was 'off the shelf', as it were, which considering what it cost (about £2.5k more than my 500), left a lot to be desired, and I ended up getting rid of it after 6 months! I wanted to make sure this car has everything I want as I plan on keeping it for at least 4 years, and if that means waiting, then so be it! Its taken me since June to decide on the options, and now ive ordered one, im 100% sure its perfect for me. I think my expected wait is quite short compared to a lot of people on here though. I just hope my current car can be sold in time

Ok, I'm getting really excited now!

I sold my current car last weekend, which was a LOT sooner that I expected, plus I managed to get a really good price for it, which is even better.

Also, I had a phonecall this morning from Tim at Harwoods, and he informs me that yesterday, Poland gave birth to a bouncing baby Fiat 500 for me! Not only that, but it could even be ready for the end of November, rather than early December!

I suppose that now its been 'born', I should really give it a name....

It was a 2002 Ford Focus. I got exactly £1,000 more than I was offered as a trade-in.

I listed it on eBay as a classified ad. It was sold within a fortnight. Costs £12.99 for a month, which is considerably cheaper than Autotrader. I also listed it on the AdTrader website and in their printed paper for 2 weeks for £8, but only just getting calls from that.
