I was a bit weary of the mileage too but it was the best I could find for the money, plus I'm sure the diesel engine is good for a few hundred thousand miles - it's just the belt and the suspension that are the weak points and those were sorted :) The interior is in surprisingly good condition too :)

I'm over in Glasgow - was thinking I'll put it in for a proper look at Alfa but I've not thought about where yet (cause I'm skint now lol). Where abouts in the north are you talking about?

I'm,in the North East of Eng; just outside of Middlesbrough - a long drive for you!

I'm sure that you'll have an independant Alfa specialist near to Glasgow and I would give a dealership a wide berth unless you can possibly avoid it - they're very expensive and in my own experience not very helpful.

Hope it all goes well for you and just a pointer - watch the inside edges of the front tyres as they go off with alarming rapidity. Dont put crap tyres on, I made that mistake and they were completelt smooth on the inside edges of my Cloverleaf in less than 2000 miles. There's Goodyears on now, which are fine.

I don't really know too much about the 156's or diesel engines by and large, but I'm sure teh 156 Forum will help you out if there's any problems.

I fancied a Coupe a while back, but the frightening running costs put me way off. I saw a bill once for discs and pads for front and rear - just over £350! That wasn't from FIAT either!

Deep breath...........

I've heard that about the tyres, it's that heavy engine that does it, I used to get that on my Bravo too...it was pretty annoying.

btw, I bought this car in Goole, between Hull and leeds, it was a pretty comfortable drive back up.

Cheers RR, I'll start my search at the beginning of january :)
