Right, well i checked the brake fluid as per suggested earlier... yep.. empty completely.. i know that now cos i have found the contents of the resovoir on the floor under the car...

Crap....

Also surrounding a box next to the resovoir, think it is something to do with power steering.. got a steering wheel type symbol on it...

Obviously i can't drive a car with no brake fluid (well i can, but darn stupid)...

But where is the leak likely to be from???

Jon

prob the clutch master cylinder. clutch and breaks share fluid, there is a guide on how to change it, has your clutch been playing up?

Wouldn't say it has been playing up..

tad jolty now and then, but that nothing new...

If the clutch components go it shouldn't affect the brakes, this was explained to me the other week as the slave cylinder in my motor has p*ssed fluids all over the deck.

you mean the clutch slave cylinder ;)

check on top of the gearbox for fluid, if there is and it looks like it may have come from the cylinder, replace it.

should only take around 15 minutes to change the cylinder over and some time to bleed it, it should cost around £30 :)

Also, Matt is correct, the reservoir is split into two at the bottom so should one leak the other will remain unaffected :)

have you check the reservoir isnt split/cracked?

i know, but if one leaks the resivor has got to go down? did when i bled the slave cyl on my marea.

Right....

took the liberty of calling my mechanic this am.. I am really busy at the mo (another story) so asked him if he had any time.. Well staggeringly, he only got one care booked into day so i ran it down there at stupid oclock this am...

He gonna have a look.. Intially he also also, cylinder, but as he has time, will check properly!!! will let you know how it all goes...

Hmmm, intersting onen!!!

Fixed...
and was none of the above!!!!

The Family mechanic was surprisingly short on the ground for work this am and took Boo in...

Was nothing to do with the Master Cylinder or Slave Cylinder....

Actually, it looks like the previous owner fixed a new hose down to the right front break, but did not ensure that the pipe was properly set and instead it had been twisted and kinked.. Tear and wear has taken hold and the pipe split under the pressure.. Hense the leak..
Turns out that the previous owner also slightly over filled the power steering fluid which is why there was some around the resovoir...

I have learnt a lesson here.. if you gonna buy a car, ensure you check it over thoroughly before AND AFTER you buy it...

Has cost me £50, but saved me a headache....
