So what if it is a girls car ?

I ordered mine last July to much derision form the wife and 10 year old son. I have a BMW 335 convertible, wife has a Golf GTI and we argue over who is going to take the Fiat. My son thinks its great and his mates and teachers at school went mad over it when I first took him to school in it, people either get it or they don't. Those that don't ? Just ignorant.

I have used it for 260 mile commutes to London, short journeys, everything and it is the only car I have ever owned that never fails to make me smile, it is just brillaint.

GO AND GET IT ORDERED !!!!!

Thanks for that comment Mark. It's good to hear someone who has a big car but has used the 500 for short and long journeys and doesn't say it has a poor ride. One thing that has worried me is the number of times the reviews say about the ride being a wobbly (you know what I mean) and I'd have the diesel for low VED and MPG.

I'm concerned friends may wonder what I've done getting something so small, girly, etc. Most comments on reviews, etc don't say it looks like a girls car but have any of you real life reactions. etc, not people just being polite though. Bearing in mind my age what do you think.

do you really care what your friends think?? it's your money and your life. theres nothing wrong with it being a tad feminine trust me...the amount of women that have been checking my 500 out is unbelievable

the majority of men that call it are either a) jealous or b) the kind who'd say your gay for using moisturiser or hair wax

I'm torn between it and a damn mini !! grrrrr the mini is expensive and I don't think worth the price but it's universally accepted and I know no one would look twice and a bloke in his 30's driving a mini..

so your going to go for a mini just because its more 'universally accepted' get a grip man :p

the 500 is what it is, i see it as a fantastic little car, with proper character. it might be a bit girly, but who cares!! i have the 1.4 sport and you should see the amount of men in there 'bigger' cars trying to burn me off just because its a 500 and looks so cute....thing is i usually end up burning them off

anyway its your cash and if your insecure about buying one then don't, but you might regret it if you opt not to.

In 2009 the petrol will cost £30 a year to tax, the diesel £20 so dont worry about VED costs:) As for fuel, doesnt seem to be a lot in it, people are getting 50 mpg from the 1.2 and around 60 mpg from the diesel... work out the cost inc. the extra £1400!
I had a diesel on order which went bottom up, now getting a petrol... honestly, all you get for the extra is loads of torque from the diesel, the petrol sounds sweet and revs loads.

My eldest son (age 18 drives a Citroen C1) says its a "bit hairdresser"!
Wife likes it (but unsure about the colour),
eldest daughter (16) loves it, as does youngest daughter and youngest son (12 & 6), the missus says its like Marmite- you either love it or hate it.
Personally I dont care if it is thought of as "girly", I'm a 42 year old, 15 stone, pot bellied Geordie!!:p

If it makes you feel any better I am 37 year old bloke with white 1.2 lounge on order. Hada bit of banter with mates about it, but I know what I like, and I had more stick for using a manbag!
Congratulate yourself on knowing style when you see it and don't follow the crowd! (IMHO of course)

I really like the 500 wouldn't mind buyign one. But tbh i think GP for the lads 500 for the ladies. But if you want one get one! Don't think you'd be unhappy with the purchase

Well that's how the world goes!!
I am 34 years old who bought the wife a Grande Punto as an excuse to order myself a white 500 1.2 Lounge, on his way in the next two weeks!!
Go for it!!!;)

You only live once.
I've only really noticed three blokes driving a MINI, which IS a girly car. If you like it, buy it: if you are afraid, get a Focus, and look on with regret every time you see a 500!

Its never a girls car, just go for it if you like it... after all its your money.

there's 2 cars and the other is a new Ferrari (or so the script that they sent me says) and there are 2 presenters, one of which has to do a forfit if his car is least popular outside a New York NightClub...

You couldn't make this stuff up, LOL!

Jim

Hell yea, let us know how it goes(y), and even youtube it:)

real men drive calypso orange 500's!!!! JUST DO IT.

Calypso Orange:slayer:

On talksport radio last night they were discussing 'Girly' cars. 'Ash' (the Tech) said its a girls car, but the host (Ian Collins) said it all depends on the colour and wheels. I'd have to agree with Ian Collins.

Well my choice isn't very macho lol

Funk White lounge diesel, Red leather with cream, 16" multi spokes and chrome....so I guess that'll not be the macho choice

Still thanks for everyone's comments.

Funk White is a funny colour, having asked for photos in the past having seen it in the flesh I grew to like it. Although 'cream metalic' in the sun it looks almost silver in others and what I really was surprised with was the way it enhances the curves of the car and really gives the car a very up market look.

I'd thought about the standard white but my concern was with the massive number of them that'll be on the road.

Anyway, everyone has their own preference.....I hope mine will be a good one

Philboo, colour looks great.

It was my first choice but couldn't have it and retain March 1st delivery, looks sort of Audi Quattro retro colour !

I have to tell you all this. I have a guy working for me who is openly out with his sexuality. He thinks the 500 is cool, but has stated categorically he will not get in mine as it would be too stereotypical !

Thanks very much for that Mark, people's comments about funk white are giving me real concerns and I just hope I'm not throwinh ££££'s down the drain......I'm not going to sleep tonight again worrying about this

I would not worry. When ever fiat showed off the 500 to the public (top gear test with james may driving or the london eye stunt) what colour did they use? Funk white!!! So obviously Fiat think its there best shade or else they wouldn't of used it quite so much in all the early publicity.
Besides who cares what other's think, sometimes its good to be different & not follow the norm ;)

Yoshi :)

PS why has the UK not been able to get the colour for so long.....because of demand!!

fiat will have used this colour on all publicity because its the most expensive option unfortunately its a simple marketing ploy not a style choice
