I take it it's a TFT?. This happens when parts of the screen die and don't respond to the controller board.

No. Its not the controller board that's at fault (usually). Its the LCD itself.
The controller boards normally cost 80% of the cost for a new screen anyway meaning it uneconomical to repair.

well since this screen cost me £30 from bro make is CIBOX 17"
my main screen is acer what according to qvc they only make computers
i do think its time to upgrade cause both areprobibily over 5 years old now
