I took a fancy to listening to Travelling Wilburys on vinyl so got my Dad's old record player from the loft and hooked it up to my amp (Denon PMA 250SE). It works and everything but is just quiet so I assume I am missing a pre-amp? I have used the "phono" input on my amp though which I assumed would be pre-amped automatically? Am I doing something totally wrong? I know very little about turntables.

Cheers :)

Found it :( On the back it says "Phono is optional, [i.e. internal pre-amp], see user manual if fitted" - so I expect it's not fitted from new :(

Found an old amp so using the post pre-amp from that through my amp, works perfectly :)

Yep ;) I didn't want to not update the thread as somebody might try to help me yet I had solved the problem...!

Tweeter and the monkey man were hard up for cash, stayed up all night selling cocaine and hash.....

Now I am onto End of the Line :)

It was an option which cost about £30 for the PMA-250SE (back in 1997 IIRC). I didn't bother with it!

Well I figured that if I bought it I might have to listen to some of that Travelling Wilburys ****e ;)
