Re: Is it OK to drive with Red Key?

As already mentioned, without the red key you can't program in new blue keys to your CODE system, so that won't be a problem as long as you don't loose your existing blue key(s) :) You could do worse than get a clone of your existing key as a backup just in case (eg at Timpsons etc).

If it's just a lock(s) problem, then I believe you can get a new lock set with keys from FIAT or even a well know online auction site. All you do then is transfer the CODE transponder from your existing key(s) to the new ones which are supplied empty. If you've got the remote alarm, then a new one can be reprogrammed into the car as it's a seperate device from the CODE immoblisher.

Re: Is it OK to drive with Red Key?

My dad had a new punto for a works van and i noticed that he only had the red key from the site. No problems with it as far as i know before he gave it back.

good thinkin there bones, ta!
definitely gonna get me a clone of my current key, thing is it is a remote lock/alarm key
i know that that is no bad thing, however my alarm has been deactivated for some time as it no longer recognises the current transponder, (long story but one second i locked the car with the remote, remembered i'd left something in there i needed, tried to use the remote again and nothing happened, the alarm went off forever when i opened the door with just the key! mr AA bloke tested the range of the transponder when he turned up and it was fine from the normal range, i assume the alarm seciever is shot but i'm not sure!!)
bit annoying knowing ye pride and joy has nothing but central locking!

Re: Is it OK to drive with Red Key?

Have you actually tried adding the alarm remote (back) into the system? Don't know exact method off hand but it's in the handbook and maybe described else where on the forum. It's done using the little recessed pen-tip buttons in the interior overhead light unit.
