The launch made me LOL rather hard :)

I posted this on facebook and thought I'd share it here and have a little discussion.....

Has just been catching up on the iPhone 5 launch. Rather hilarious. No NFC or Wireless charging a la Lumia 920. Apparently this is confusing to customers -> http://engt.co/TLBrFn

I'm sorry, but how confusing is it to place something on top of something else to charge it? Answer, it's not. You just hadn't thought of putting it in your product and made up some poxy excuse. NFC? I seem to be able to manage to pay for my McDonalds with my contactless debit card, I'd wager most iPhone users could probably manage that. I guess they need to keep something back for the iPhone 5s launch because they sure as hell have no chance of "inventing" anything new and worthwhile before then.

New dock connector means that anyone who spunked money on a dock for their iPhone or iPod will have to spunk 29 US$ on an adaptor if they want their iPhone 5 to work with it.

I would say that Apple has lost a customer in me, but there was no way I was ever going to buy one of their overpriced under-featured devices.

Im gonna get the 5 as my 4s contact is up when its released.

-No wireless charging
Oh no, I will have to plug my phone in like I have for the past 12 years..... Meh?

-No NFC
I dont have any need for this, I've not struggled with chip and pin or cash. Ive also been put off after hearing people can clear your accounts by simply walking past you (n)

You are right in saying they'll probs hold this back for the 5s

One downside I will need to buy a new screen mount for my car but hey ho.

I'm surprised how light they have actually made it, I'm guessing not being made from mostly glass has helped

LOL. So you've heard about your account being able to be emptied so that must be true :ROFLMAO:

As for wireless charging, your argument is invalid and ridiculous. Did people say the same when colour screens, touchscreens, 3g, LTE and every other feature came along? No, because they're useful and they make life easier.

Maxi you're wasting your time, he's been brainwashed already. Too far gone :p.

Apple; oh look we've made it bigger, now we're going to charge you more to buy it. And btw we've changed the charging dock, so all those expensive accessories you've bought wont work, unless you buy our adaptor.

It's like every time they introduce the next model, it looks identical to the last one...

I think when my contract expires I'll be getting one of the new Windows Phone 8 phones.

And regarding NFC theft, I was lead to believe that it's not directly linked with your account, in a similar way to PayPal, and that you can only spend a maximum about per transaction and a certain about of times per day.

I've had an Omnia 7 (gave it to my wife), a Lumia 800 I bought off ebay and couldn't unlock and a used HTC HD7. All windows phones and all fantastic, WP8 will be even better :)

I have an iphone4. I like it, but it's not fantastic.

It does everything I need, but I still prefer my older Android phones. There's nothing stand out that makes it worthwhile except the inflated cost for a design accessory.

It's not like I can't pick up any Android device and overlay an iPhone or windows skin. Hell I can actually download a kernel and adk that makes an android phone look and a work identically to an iPhone.

Think I'll wait till HTC announce there W8 phone

A device only needs to be 4cm from the chip to activate it so cant see why its not possible.

Its not invalid, yes its the future but i cant see why id have to go out of my way to buy pads to charge my phone when everything else is still 'behind the times' and using cables. maybe if more devices used it and became a part of life (like a 3 pin wall plug) then fair enough, until then ill stick to a cable. Everything seems to have USB these days so its not going to be a problem if i cant find a wall socket.

It's not possible. Unless your account only has £15 in it of course.
Ah that clears things up then, was unaware of this, i dont have an NFC card so not really read up on it much

Hows this? I got an Android phone aswell. In my old job I used to setup a lot of WM6.0/6.5, WP7/7.5, Android and IOS phones, liked them all (except the windows phone and their stupid ways of connecting to exchange server requiring you to create download and install a certificate :nutter:)

Wireless charging is a complete gimmick, what happens if you stay at the gf house how do you charge your phone then? I also think that it is less energy efficient due to the changes in energy type.

PS, chargers are going to be standardised soon so that they will all fit and charge all phones, why would wireless be a pro then? apart from you have to charge it on a pad that is plugged into a mains anyway.... Which is just throwing out radiation wherever it wants to.

I don't charge my phone in one place all the time so the wireless charging would be a waste of time/money for me. If I'm in bed and want to use the phone I don't really want to interrupt charging so I'd rather have it plugged in.

Wireless is good for some, not for others, the same as it's good for some uses but not for others. For me it's not good for charging my phone.

Hell if you saw my desk atm you'd have a heart attack.

I disagree.

Chargers are already standardised, this is why Apple have to include the micro USB to mini dock with phones sold in Europe.

WRT to wireless charging.. if that's fully standardised then that's a good thing too. You can charge your phone on that when you're out and about, much the same why you would with a normal charger.

'Throwing out radiation' seems like a bit of a.. I dunno, daft phrase. They'll generate an electromagnetic field and that's what'll induce the current, but put about phrases like 'throwing out radiation' makes it sound like it's glowing in the corner spiting out alpha particles. Now to the second bit of.. why would it need to be on all the time? It could EASILY drop into a standby mode, and be activated when a signal is put close to it from, man, I don't know - some sort of Near Field Communication standard

Sorry, just stopped laugh.

Yeah its radiation, its ElectroMagnetic Radiation. Actually to be honest its not even that or radiation!!! Its a Electrostatic Field thats used.. So its STATIC electric, like if you rub a ballon in your hair.. not like thats going to kill you.

A wire coil around a piece of metal in the pad creates a magnetic field. a similar coil in the phone reacts to that field and creates a current.

Its also very very very weak. move the phone more than a few centemeters and its can pick up the field anymore.

So yes its throwing radiation everywhere. but its very **** at throwing things.

And wireless charging nothing new either been around a few years. I think PALM (HP) were the first to introduce wireless charging on the Palm Pre+ back in 2009 :p CATCH UP APPLE. I could buy a case for my iPhone4 if i wanted that lets me do wireless charging
