This is a problem i have with my Fiat 850 (849cc) 1971.
I did a engine rebuild last winter, and last year it ran smooth without problems.
I started having problems with intermittent missfire very spontaneous and i also noticed that starting it after standing utside during nighttime was difficult.
What are the places to start looking for faults?

I can drive for longer periodes without problems, so this is a very intermittent problem.
these parts are new since the rebuild:
Coil
Spark plugs and cables
Condensator
Rotor
Point
Distributor cap

Check your fuel supply - pump ok, filters clean, no dirt in carburettor?

They will be hard to start if it's cold out, I recently changed my oil from Miller's M50 to Halfords 20w50 and it's made a huge difference to cranking on the first start of the day.
Also, it's take a few cranks to fill the bowl in the carb so they can be slow to start if left lying for a week or so.
