Hey Everyone

Im 18 and have been driving for 1 year and 1 month, I don't quite understand the high pice for my insurance.
After speaking to friends and reading on here it seems im being bent over for mine, so i will give you the lowdown :)

Im pay £2800 annually (since September) I didnt use the car much when i got it as it was my mums, now I own it and was checking various options, with both parents on and me being named it was £2800, with me as main and parents as named went through several companies and got quotes of £5000-£6000....

Am i right in thinking that you can only use NCD on one car at a time, so my dad has like 30 years NCD on his Ford Galaxy, so he cant have half on my punto then other on his can he?

I live in London, Edmonton, N9 and i know this is catagorised as the highest risk area for car insurance.

The car is a 1.2 1998 fiat punto 3 door with NO mods, factory fit immob etc.

My friend has a 1.2 16v as he is paying like £800, another has a 1.2 clio £600 and another a 1.6 golf, £2500.. Understandable..

Surely i can get mine down when i renew it.. Or change it now to save some money..

Thanks
Kris

Is your year of driving with your own NCB or not?

I dont have my own 1 year NCB to take anywhere as im currently named, but they will honour it within the company

Thanks
Kris

thers no way your friends are paying that price legitimately (if young an no/little NCD)
at my age i would probably get those prices without my NCD
how can you now "own" the car and be a named driver?

edit: just did a quick check
a 98 1.2 16v sporting would be £540 fully comp,£526 TPFT with no NCD used
thats on the driveway at night,no voluntery excess

so what age,NCD is your friend?

He is 17, 0 years NCD and i believe he is fronting

What company was this with?

hello Kris i am also a young driver who has been raped by insurance.

this years insurance which is finally running out, cost me over £2500 for an 899cc seicento third party. (my own policy)

this month when i renew will be insured on mk2 punto sporting for £1000.
Massive difference i know, but this is also on an Admiral multicar discount, (but still my own policy).

tips:
- You could try going on multicar with parents as i am about to do.
- Use GoCompare, was always fast to put in new quotes.
- third party, fire and theft always cheapest for some reason.
- Tell them your in full time education. e.g uni/college but living at home.
- try different addresses and always say that the car is on drive/garaged.
- always put at least 1 experienced older driver who hasnt claimed. (parents preferably)

That reason being you dont have as much cover i.e third party, if an accident is your fault, pays for the other car and not your own! Fire and theft covers what it says ... fire and theft. Fully comp covers you cars damage and the other persons, again if it is your fault. And most companies include windscreen cover etc in fully comp packages

If your not then dont lie on an insurane policy ... makes it invalid

- try different addresses and always say that the car is on drive/garaged.
Again if this isnt true dont lie ... one again makes your policy invalid

Ok some people get away with fronting or lying on their policy but it is a very costly mistake if you are the one who gets caught.
Imagine this... some one runs into your car and dents it while it is parked outside your house, in the street becuase you dont have said garage. Insurance broker asks ... why wasn't it in the gaage you say it is always parked in? Your answer would be?? To lie further?

I know insurance is expensive as i am a young driver with only 1 / 2 (2 if i stay with the same company as i was a named driver) NCB. I am about to get a new 1.2 500 which is gonna cost me around £700 but i would rather have the piece of mind being fully covered as i have told the truth than run the risk of not being properly covered and suffer a greater loss if anything happens

When i posted ways of lowering insurance, i was trying to help him.

even though most of you may disagree on what i posted wether it was legal or not. it makes it cheaper.
And to be honest im quite confident that i will not crash while im doing it.
insurance companies want to f**k me, then im going to f**k them too.

we dont live in a legit world. Why live like it?

I would believe that most people would be confident that they wont crash when behind the wheel otherwise i doubt they would be driving. However, accidents happen and at much expense ... an even greater expense if your insurance is invalid

at current insurance rates, it is easier and much cheaper for me to scrap my car, buy a new one and reinsure.

Says the man who admits to driving at 108mph on the public highways ...

Peter - if you've lied to your insurance company, then I hope you have enough money saved to replace your car if it's stolen, because there's no way they will pay out.

They will also blacklist you to other insurance companies and you will find it very hard to get competitive insurance.

dont worry, its cheaper for me to get a dif car than for insurance to pay out and charge me more next year.
