Hey all, A Beau Type question :p

My dad has this laptop he got for free, the owner thought it didn't work but it did the owner was just rubbish :p

It is meant to have built in Wireless internet but the official drivers I obtained do not contain a Set-Up just the .ini files and "Catalogues"

When I run detect new Hardware, no new hardware is detected.

My question is, under that list of components I can choose to install, what are Wireless adapters known as?

Are they reffered to as 'Network Adapters' by Windows? because I can't see nothing else relevant in the list I can choose from apart from 'Modems', 'Ports (COM & LPT) and maybe a 'PCMCIA Adapter'

Any Ideas? I'm almost out (n)

If you have windows XP installed the drivers should already be there. look in control panel network connections should be in there just enable it.

I've seen that, but the Wireless Activity light does not flash on the Laptop and no networks are detected.

The Set Up wireless is available on all XP installations but it won't do anything without the drivers of the wireless device.

You get these files from the DL Trance?

There is a switch but the activity light stays off when switched, like it has no power..... or its broken

There are Bluetooth Drivers available for this laptop but these do not work for the Wireless internet and I don't know if they do anything at all for this laptop :bang:

Not too clued up on lappys but Tosh says

Wireless communication
  • Compliancy : FIR
  • Network Support : 4 Mbps
  • Wireless Technology : Fast InfraRed
  • Version : IrDA 1.1
  • Wireless Technology : Wireless LAN upgradeable with optional mini PCI card
Do you require an additional card to surf?

Might just be there is no wireless card then, But I was under the presumption that the wireless card was built in because the FIR is seperate and functions without the switch on the side and the Lappy has a Wireless Activity LED and a 'FN+HOTKEY' to activate it and in the manual it says it has it built in.

I've been trying to install it for weeks with no joy, even tried good old MSDOS Prompt commands and I get:

********************************
*** Installing 'Wireless Network Driver' ***
********************************

)==(undefined) was expected at this time.

Then it ends

(n) Done the same thing the other Bluetooth stack programs did, asked me to connect a bluetooth device, I tried switching on the Wireless switch but it asked me again

Maybe its in the BIOS, I'm gonna have another look there, I had a look already but you never know, maybe I missed it.

Thanks for the help bro, if it denies me again I'll hit it with the playstation and see if that fixes it (y)

No worries, like IT stuff as no day is the same and someday the outcome of this may help me and someone else out, keep digging.
