Was heading away yesterday morn in my 98 coupe 20 valve and it just died after 2 yards. I have noticed that the injection light has come on and stayed on. Key code light remained off. I tried the spare key but no joy, turning over but thats that ! Yep , plenty of fuel !!!
Car had just come back from a service, new oil, petrol, air filter and plugs.
Would the car be immobilised or is it an injection prob ?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Could be the injectors have gone, unless coupe is known to have flakey imobiliser,

Get a meter and check the resistance on the injectors?

Sounds very much like the cam sensor or crank sensor. I can't remember which will kill the car when its running, but one of them prevents starting and one of them prevents running.

Crank sensor is easy(ish) to replace - cam sensor is far more difficult, as the cam pulley has to come off

Thanks for the feedback. I had a diagnostic check over the weekend and this indicates its a problem with the Electronic ignition and fuel injection control unit, (Bosch yellow box behind dash). I noticed these are readily available to buy online but wondered will the keycode or Fiat Code recognise a different control unit !

Well I had the ecu sorted by Schepers Autotechnic but the car is still a non runner. It was noticed that a fuse near the Abs control unit was badly burnt out ! Can anyone identify it !

Ouch!. Why's it a non runner now? or does it keep poping that fuse?
Well the problem with the fuse was eventually traced to the fuel pump being knackered! Well I purchased a new one and the car fired up but badly! Now the plugs are all oiled up and the mechanic says all 5 cylinders are full of oil. He is putting it down to a head gasket failure. I was under the impression that water in the oil would happen if this was the case but the oil is fine as it only done about 15 mile from the last service, no exhaust smoke , nothing ! Any ideas !

Well compression test is fine, new fuel pump, camshaft and crankshaft sensors were fitted. Fuel and spark are all fine. Diagnostics does not show up any faults.I have noticed that the rear lights stay on while the lights switch is off and when the bonnet is opened the indicators flash. This is unusal as the immobiliser has been previously done away with and the ecu has been decoded. Would an earth problem be causing this !

Head gaskets on these very very rarely go.

I had what I thought was a head gasket failure on mine as it was using a lot of coolant and loads of white smoke out the exhaust. It turned out the head was warped and looked like it overheated at some point prior to me owning it.

The head gasket was fine though!!

I wouldn't trust your mechanic if he doesn't work on a lot of Coupes. Get in touch with a specialist.
