hey peeps, had this problem for ages. its not major, just annoying.

My indicator won't stay in the left position! if i'm turning right, it locks and then unlocks when youve straightened the wheel, as is normal. but the left one doesn't lock, it just springs back up into the off position.

the indicator bulbs are fine and they still work. its just i have to hold down the indicator when im turning left, and its annoying.

the first time i noticed it was when an engineer had finished installing a head unit in my car funnily enough !

In view of the last sentence in your post, maybe the 'engineer' left something physically interfering with the operation of the stalk - say a wire wrongly routed for example?

I had this problem and it turned out to be the rubber around the indicator stalk stopping it from locking into position, only when indicating left. Fixed it by removing the rubber from the hole and reinserting it though I tested it by pulling the rubber out of the hole for a few days and found it started working perfectly.

Your problem might be as simple, or might not... who knows.

There's been several threads recently about the indicator stalk no holding during the cold weather. Depends how long you mean by "had this problem for ages".

What do you mean by not holding, when I am turning right or left and I can't turn it on.. the lever simply doesn't go all the way down to click and stick... it's always been like that..

It was exactly the same case with my stalk...
The rubber was preventing it from locking in the "left" position, while it was locking fine on the "right". Removing/adjusting the rubber fixed the problem.
I drove it more than a year with this annoying problem thinking that the stalk is simply broken...

LEGEND ! (y)

turned out to be the rubber getting stuck like you said, i pulled it out and the indicator worked fine, just pushed it back in a bit so it looks neat and it still works. cheers for that mate :D

I discovered it was just the rubber part.. after paying £60 for a new indicator stalk. :bang:
