I have a year 2000 1.2 8v Punto on a W reg, I travelled a 200mile round trip yesterday with no problems but when ive gone to start the car this morning the code light on the dash stays lit and will not let the car fire, although it turns fine. Any suggestions please.

Means the Immboliser things the car is been nicked and locks the Ignition and fueling system off to prevent starting

So the engine will turn over till its blue in the face

checks
- Only the fiat key on key ring, other car keys, alarm fobs, chipped/codded keys can interfere with the signal recieved
- That turning it off - key out - steering wheel locked - and retrying
- Try the spare key

possible causes
- Dead antenna
- Key lost its sequence
- ECU minds gone blank

Any work done recently on the car?

Under the airbox is and on the throttle body is a small earthing strap - is this clean tight and present?

The car had a replacement ECU fitted around 5mnths ago from a punto of the same year, The replacement only came with 1 key (blue with red square) which has been used with no problem until the above mentioned problems this morning

Blue key with a Red square? thats odd....

And if it had an ECU swap, it must of had the locks, fuseboxs etc swapped

Also in my key fob itself I can hear a rattling part i.e the transponder or the chip wonder if this could be the problem and im buggered with it being a sealed key

if its the solid key (none/remote) idont think it will be that.
the imob chip sits in a recess theres no where for it to fall out into.
you can Splice them open.ive done a few,

but be careful the imob chip is made of glass,

So the car won't start and there is something rattling inside the key....I think the evidence suggests a smashed transponder. That would seem to be unlikely, but you've got to go with Holmes....

Was the noise there before the car failed to start?

First thing you need to do is take your key to a good locksmith and get it tested.
We dont charge for this so, if your near Benfleet, pop into our shop and I'll have a look at it.
