A week or so ago I was thinking/wondering if I could test the components on the bench. Bit fiddly but I connected up a set of parts for a simple ignition then turned the distributor with my fingers and hey ho got a nice spark at the plugs. As I have quite a few parts I would like to check out I went a stage further with a bit of board and a few terry clips and can now build different ignition arrangements on a test rig.

The box in the middle is an old Velleman electronic ignition module, not connected in first picture which shows a simple set up with ballast resistor, twin spark coil, Zelmot distributor, HT leads and plugs.
Second picture the electronic module connected & no condenser.
I can now test individual items by substituting existing components.

At college many years ago they had a similar set up with a variable speed motor to run the distributor as a source of instruction for the students.:)
