Hi everyone,
Hit a problem in the course of replacing the upper column shaft (containing the 2 bushes) and ignition barrel/steering lock. Thanks to Ed (edessex) for sending the part through so promptly
.
Due to lack of time, a local mechanic fitted it for me and this has got rid of any play in the shaft. He swapped the old ignition switch and installed it into the replacement barrel as part of the job - all good so far but something's not quite right
.
For positions other than MAR (dash warning lights on) and when the car is being driven, the steering lock automatically engages almost immediately when the wheel has hardly moved up or down. This has an impact when working on the car's steering system, for example, if replacing track control arms.
Is the shaft in the wrong position or does the problem lie with the switch or lock itself?
Any thoughts or advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy
