hi all got a small problem, the car when warm idles fine, but when tou got to stop occasionaly the revs will just die, not all the while but every so oftern

any ideas?

have checked the usual breather pipes

Try cleaning the throttle body, especially the idle air control.

removed the air filter cover, cleaned it all down with carb cleaner, seems a little better, doesnt die now but does drop very low, would reseting the ecu do any good? checked the throttle cable and the top pipes all look qute clean

its a 2000 w reg sporting 1.1 spi on a webber carb 47k

You have no carburettor -- I hope! You have fuel injection and therefore a throttle body.

Pop it off and clean it. Someone wrote it up recently.

lol blonde moment sorry !!!:bang:

have tryed taking it off and cleaning it, also tryed reseting the ecu by leaving it off the battery for 3/4 of a hour then gave it a good run out 40+ miles, seem a little better revs still drop down but now doesnt seem to stall, some one told me there was a way of adjusting the idle speed, have also checked the throttle cable its all free and not to tight

guess i will be trying the leads and plugs on sunday

Give it a good, good thrashing. Worthwhile too, if it's an SPI (single injector) car pulling off the hose to the MAP sensor (and taking out the valve thingy in it) and basting through with carb cleaner.

tryed that too, got some carb cleaner on the sensors in the filter housing
presume thats the map sensor?, blasted out the small pipes that go towards the ecu and the rear of the engine, checked all pipes connected to the throtle body, but they all look clean, the only thing i havent changed are the leads or plugs didnt know if it was when the plugs or leads were under load that they were shorting or failing to fire?

It happens, but unlikely to be causing your prob. An old trick is to run the car at night, bonnet open, and look for blue flashes round the plugs/leads/coils.

cool give that a try tonight, or i may just go and get some new leads there only just ove £10 from my local parts place

right think ive got it sorted?
the little breather pipe from the manifold to the ecu had a break in it mid way by the ecu pickup, have replaced the pipe with a new one, now it doesnt stall but the idle speed is kind of low 700-800 rpm used to be about 900 ish but it runs and seems to have more power now, just got to sort out a knockin from the front end now, think its the cv as its more apparent on a right hand turn

thanks for all your help:worship:

That not a breather, that a vacuum pipe.

I was only trying to add to your education. Refitting/replacing your pipe makes perfect sense. Fingers pointed it out 23 or so hours ago.

sorry im a old school guy prefer my engines to have carbs and points
like on my old school beetle 1200cc`1969`:slayer: like the fact that i can set it up and tune it rather than letting a computer do it for me, less to go wrong !!!

If the vacuum pipe fell off the dizzy in your beetle it would affect the running.
