Not a complete audio noob, but still learning
I've got a 3000W peak (1000W RMS) amp and sub for my 1.2 02 punto, wiring all done no issues, but was wondering if it really is a necessity to uprate alternators and/or battery? I don't really fancy having a slave battery so the alternator would be a preferable option, and power caps seem widely disputed so avoiding them :)

Wondering what amps is the standard punto alternator, and what amps would i really need to maintain the kind of output i'll be getting, also similar with battery requirements if thats a wise choice :)

Cheers

1000 watts is a kilowatt in any money and you need to run the car on top of that. Most cars can make 700 watts max but struggle to manage 500 for any length of time. Also the auxy belts are not long enough to wrap around an additional gennie.

A slave battery (leisure type) and split charger make the most sense, but really how often will you be running the amp flat out? Can your PA speakers take the load?

You could also try a running 1000watt portable generator.
Don't forget your musicians ear plugs or before too long you'll need 1000 watts just to hear Terry Wogan in the morning.
What?
Pardon?

I think that if you were to do TB3 (upgrade cables alt-batt bat-gnd alt-gnd) and put a decent dry cell batt up front you will be fine. 1k isnt all that much and your average car is good for 1.5k, so taking into consideration the small engine and charging system im sure you would be fine with the above mods.
Look at batteries from Hawker, NSB and Optima.
Also have you scoped the amp. If the amps are clipping then you are increasing the ampage draw buy quite a large amount. Sending a nice clean signal will help you to maintain a good voltage no end.
Also what size cabling are you using anything other than 0 gauge will be restricting the power flow by some what.

The wiring done at the moment was with the wiring kit that came suited to the amp (4AWG) claiming 3kW max power so figuring that should be fine..
I'll accept now as well when it comes to the wiring and that i am pretty much clueless so with the big three what kind of specs for the cables are you needing?
Also could you maybe suggest some links to examples of these cables and also the batteries and ideas of prices,

- ebay item 220491531208 (can't post URL's -.-) - something like that any good?

cheers

So what is the max power rating on your amplifier. I would say that 4 gauge is pushing it. If you have any clip or anomaly in your system then you are in danger causing a problem. 0 gauge all the way IMO
Again when doing TB3 Just use the bigest cable possible so i would recomend 0 gauge again.
I buy all of my stuff from Knukonceptz

It says out of stock but the webside is very out of date, also AM is very hard to get hold of some times so if he doesnt answer the phone just leave a message and he usually gets back to you.
Your guess is a good as mine with batteries but ill have a look for you.

The amp is 3000W peak, 1000RMS same as sub :), and what kind of problems could clipping cause? (ovo i'd leave headroom and have it near peak very rarely anyway)

Think i'll stick to 0 gauge for the big three then definitely, and i'll have a look into the batteries :)
one last question lol - with that link, how much length of the cable do you get for the price given? and any idea how much you need for the big three, assumin its an easy enough job to do yourself with some form of knowledge

That is per meter and then you have the ring terminals to add to that as well. About 4/5 m should be ample. I will try to find and familiarize myself with a punto and write a guide for you.
